Will Probably Buy From Gamepc. Any Objections Or Advice Otherwise?

After nights of window shopping and research, I finally nailed it down to 2 laptops:

ECS g556
Mitac 8050

both were very enticing, but after hearing some problems with the ECS on the voodoo forum, and the fact that the Mitac has a built in subwoofer and it just looks so damn sexy I think i'm going with the Mitac.

The reason I will probably go with GamePC is because I emailed a few companies with teh game questions and each time Gamepc had a response for me within the hour. 2 companies havent even replied to me yet and it's been a couple of days.

Anywyas, i'm just really excited as most probably are before they shop for a new laptop.

I will monitor the Canadian dollar over the next week and hopefully i will get my new toy by the end of the month..

Gamepc.com huh... They look like a good company. I am buying the mitac 8050 also but, I am going to wait till the Dothan processors come out. I did notice however that Gamepc has them listed already. I think that I am going to wait until Hypersonic PC lists their prices to finally purchase the laptop.

From the Warranty section of the web page

Quote:
All of the GamePC notebooks also come with a thirty-day notebook dead pixel policy, wherein if your notebook screen develops a bad pixel within the first month of operation, the notebook can be returned for a new unit. After the first thirty days, there must be at least five dead pixels on screen for GamePC to accept a notebook for return.
This is very impressive.

Ok, upon reading the rules of hte forum carefully, I realized i violated it by starting this thread.

I apologize for doing so. I am in no way affiliated with the companies i listed. I'm just ur average guy excited about the new notebook.

Peace

you can configure laptops with no cpu's, ram, drives etc... decent price for the barebones too... nice.

After customizing the mitac 8050 at Gamepc I came up with quite a hefty price. My big issue with them is that they don't offer the 9700 with the systems; only the 9600 pro turbo. A hypersonic cX6 (same chassis) customized with the same components plus a 9700 is still cheaper.

I emailed their support about that.. apparently no 9700 until next month. I'm ok with that, as i'm more of a casual gamer. I really like their 30 day no bad pixel gaurantee though..
Many probably don't care, but their 8050 model includes a subwoofer. 2 other vendors i as considering dont' have this.

My price is 1762 USD
1.7 dothan
512 333 ram
40gb hard drive (i have the 7200 rpm drive already)
128MB 9600 card
DVD/CDRW drive (i do dvd burning on my desktop)
wirelese b/g

my Budget is 2000USD so after shipping i'm on track.

Of course the Cdn dollar dropped today. I will see how it goes next week

Gamepc is a solid company. I would have probably bought my CL56 from them but they didn't respond to my last e-mail and powernotebooks.com did. That 30 day no dead pixel guarantee is nice. Most other places require five or more. The thing you have to consider though, and this is what I went through, is the $200 more you're paying for something from gamepc worth the peace of mind? (Which is still incredibly cheaper than something from Voodoo or *cringe* Alienware).

I tried to customize the same setup at hypersonic and it will cost me 1916 instead of 1622 at gamepc!! Hypersonic is 2115 with the 9700 card.

One thing i really like about gamepc is the customize without a hard drive. I already have the 7200 rpm drive in use with my dell right now.

I also get 3% discount for using wire transfer(of course the cost of wire transfer means i really only get 1%)

Anyhow I knocked the price down to 1622 now.. I considered using the 140 i saved on the HD to upgrade to the DVD burner, but i do my burning on my desktop and with the dual layer burners coming in i don't want another single layer burner..
