802.11g broadcom network adapter bad wifi reception 1.0 MBPS EM250 Netbook

This seems to be a common problem but no solution posted on the internet.  My issue is computer specific and has problem with any wifi signal.  

 

MBPS go down to 1.0 then back up to 36 (rarely 54 unless next to router box) EVEN THOUGH I AM NOT MOVING AROUND.  Variable MBPS I thought was a function of distance so shouldn't change if not moving.  

 

I get slightly less bar strength compared to other computers with Atheros instead, but quickly drop to 1.0 mbps regardless of bars.

 

I try the usual update drivers but it says i have the latest.

Reading from your other thread about the keyboard ribbon not seating properly, how about a complete internal review of any more loose parts inside first?

I had opened it specifically to check on the wifi card and antenna.  I have a duplicate machine EM250 but that came with an atheros wifi card which literally works 10 times better.  But it is SO much better, it must be beyond a better quality issue - there must be some fix for the broadcom one.

common issue on that model is the wireless antenna get pinched at the hinge. if the antenna are damaged that would explain some of the issue. check for that, and also check for driver updates for the wifi card.

Thanks for reply - but the varying speed sitting in same spot is key clue it's not a pinched antenna. If I were jolting it around when speed changes then maybe would be a pinched wire or something.  but just happens out of nowhere.  I know there are settings about varying speed - I've tried adjusting those but no success yet.
