Dell D610 Slow just surfing the web... time for a new one?

Hi All,

I have a Dell D610 laptop with XP SP3, 2GB Ram, 2.0ghz Pentium M Dothan 760. 120gb EIDE @ 5400rpm. It was purchased in March 2006.. So yeah it is almost 6 years old..

It recently crash and I had to re-install Windows. It was probably getting slow before.. but lately it seems that simple task of suring the web with the latest IE8 that the CPU is loaded at 50-60%.

I do have Verizon's security suite running in the background as well as my Canon printer drivers etc. but that is IT. I even removed my TuneUp Utilities 2011 program.

I have the power setting to Desktop - so the CPU is @ 2000mhz all the time. Oh, I also use FanGui to keep tabs on the CPU Load, Temp and Speed

Any thoughts to what might be happening or... is it finally time to bite the bullet and just get a new laptop?

Thanks

Yes, or maybe it's time to take it apart and perform a good clean up with new thermal paste first? New and faster hard drive also?

cheers ...
