HELP WITH - Recovery Partition

Thread Starter
Hi

I brought a new ASUS N73S Notebook last November.

The next day I tried to backup the Windows 7 64 bit operating system, using the ASUS built in software (loads automatically).

I made ready a number of DVD –R discs.

PROBLEM: The software would not ‘incrementally’ change and ask for the next disc, even after leaving it running for about an hour.

So I tried another disc – yet another coaster. And then another.

Today has been the first chance to try and sort this out, so I phoned ASUSin the UK and asked if they could provide a Recovery Disc.

Answer: No, we don’t supply those anymore.

MY PROBLEM

I need to try and make a copy of the Windows 7 OS – it is on a partition, but I do not know how to reach it.

This is because when I look in Computer Management/Storage/Disk Management I see three volumes and one volume
has NO LABEL

This is how it is set out;

Volume    Layout   Type     File System   Status

               Simple   Basic                        Healthy (Primary Partition)
Data (D:)  Simple   Basic   NTFS             Healthy (Logical Drive)
OS (C:)    Simple   Basic   NTFS             Healthy (System, Boot, Page File, Active, Crash Dump, Primary Partition)

BLUE SOLID LINE     BLUE SOLID LINE                                GREEN OUTLINE BOX
Disk 0
Basic                                                        OS(C:)                                      DATA (D:)
596.17 GB    25.00 GB                               259.17 GB NFTS                       312.00 GB NTFS
Online          Healthy (primary Partition)        (System, Boot, Page File,          Healthy (Logical Drive)
                                                                   Active, Crash Dump,
                                                                  Primary Partition)

MY QUESTION

Is the RECOVERY PARTITION the partition without a label?

As you’ll see this is 25GB

Anyone know how I can backup the OS to a Flash Drive (Pen Drive) so that I can reinstall the OS
if my system crashes?

I’ve read that you can restore with the recovery partition, but that will not help if my system
crashes and I cannot get to the drive (I’ve been there before with XP).

Many thanks in advance.

Stephen

Take a look at this and see if it helps you...they talk of making a USB drive recovery for a netbook...I would surmise it would be the same deal for any notebook
((http://vip.asus.com/forum/view.aspx?board_id=20&model=Eee+PC+1005PE&id=20100429010016296&page=1&SLanguage=en-us)).
If that doesnt work, just google "make Asus recovery disk" ...should be more info out there with that
