Ok. So i get an inspiron 8600 with all the specs below (pretty much completely pimped out) for like $2800. Then i finagled $400 off of the guy. So that is $2400. Then i get about $300 in mail in rebates. Thats about 2100 (actually like 2050). Not bad at all i thought, esp with these specs. So im thinkin about keepin it, but call up on the last day (21st day) and complain a little. I mean maybe saying 5 or 6 words, and the cust serv rep blurts out "i can give u just $200"...so im like ok! So that brings me down to 1850! And that is with 3 year next day air complete care! Anybody else have any good stories like this?

How do you get them to take the money off. Do you hagle, or just come out and say: " can you give me $400 off?" In other words, I am wondering what you say in order to get these deals.

well...techniques...umm, first tell him what u want and have them cust it. And before he tells u the price, tell him how much u want to pay. First, tho, cust one with what u want and take a few hundred off the price. Also, i talked to a cool sales rep (name of ben sweet, # 58978 i think...). If u get a bad rep that wont do anything, just call again!

i told them the same thing... they wanted to sell me the system for 1700 i told them i wanted to pay 1300 after bout 20 minutes of me putting him on hold and we agreed at 1450.

Sounds good, thanks. I'll remember this when I buy mine.

My original screen pretty much sucked, so i got a replacement, this is where the fun begins, my replacement laptop was canceled twice while "in production".

So i called up and started to rip them out, somewhere along the conversation, between consumer rights and the evil corporate plan to screw me, i mentionened that that leaving the serial port off the 8600c sucked and that i had paid for an imaginary laptop config when i could buy it today day for 100 bucks less. ( because the dotham was released, but i bull****ted on the $100 figure, i had no idea of the price change in the PM 1.4)

End result -

<CS rep> Sir, Would a dell APR help you connect your devices to your laptop

<me> ummm, maybe......

<CS rep> and i understand your concern over the price drop and i can offer you $100 credit

<me> er, thanks

-----

They must be building these laptops dirt cheap the way they toss discounts, anyway no complaints from me

128mb ATI card
Dell TM 1300 b/g

you have to be on your game knowing your stuff other wise they will beat you.... one time i called and they tried to sell me my computer for 1700 + shipping, tax... i was like isnt there a 15% dicount going on now... he was like oh yea let me adjuest that for you... I was like thats only 10% then he put me on hold and dropped the call.

For mine I called up saying I didn't want all of the current deal (it was double memory free (why I got 1GB from Dell) and a free printer) and wanted cash off instead of the printer. I was persistant and ended up getting a free deluxe leather carry case, free shipping and AUD$200 off instead of the printer. That pretty good considering it was an AUD$89 printer and all that was worth like AUD$450-$500
On top of that, the following monday (I had orderd on the thursday or friday), prices had dropped a little from what my original config had been (note that with the deal I had negotiated it was already cheaper anyway), so I haggled another AUD$100 off.
All in all, I got about AUD$600 off the original purchase price, the moral, be persistant

hmm, interesting now I am getting ideas. maybe I should call the rep up and be firm by telling him there was a valid code I found for $110 off to final price , and then he might accept it, or he may say "sorry, sir 15% off deals do not combine with other deals" that kind of crap.

Try it, what do you have to lose?

This is for real...you're actually able to haggle with the company to get a better price?
No, all these people are lying. Every one of 'em.
Don't roll your eyes at me, I'm serious.

I've never heard of a big company that will haggle like this, and you never know when you stumble into a whole thread of people feeding off of each other for a big joke.

If you have ever bought a car, you know that a lot of big companies will haggle. (except Honda)
