For those who want to see what Intel can do with a Sandforce controller, this is the SSD for you. I'd be interested myself if I was eligible.

Here are the contest basics:

1.) It's sponsored by Intel, who provided the SSDs
2.) It's being run by Huddler (the hosting site of Notebook Forums)
3.) The final contest judges are part of the Notebook Forums community
4.) NBF mods and admins, Huddler staff, people who work for Intel, and their immediate family members are not eligible
5.) No bots or alts

Happy posting and good luck!

I'm in. Daddy needs a new SSD!

1) I own a very basic 64 GB Kingston. It's fairly slow and low capacity by modern SSD standards, but even so it runs circles around my WD Caviar black series drive.
I am indeed considering a new SSD for this year.

2) I'm starting to consider an SSD again; I want more capacity than 64 GB.
Intel, Samsung, Crucial, and OCZ are on my short list. Whatever I get, I want reliability first and foremost, followed by capacity, then performance a distant third place.

3) I tend to get a buy or build a PC every 2 to 3 years, with major component refreshes half-way through the cycle.

4) [ I am not Canadian, but a USAian ]
As a USAian, I don't believe in no stinking mathematics; math is for eggheads.
As an honorary member of the Cherokee Indians and by extension, Canada, however (long story, involving drunk cow-tipping rednecks), I calculate it to be 43 and 2/3rds.

1) Do you currently own an SSD? Are you planning on purchasing one or more in the near future?

Yes - Yup, have one for the laptop, need one for the desktop.

2) If you’re planning on purchasing an SSD, which brand(s) are you considering and why (price, performance, reliability, brand, etc.)?

Samsung, Intel - reliability, then performance, then price.

3) How often do you purchase a new PC (every 12 months or less, every 12-18 months, 18-24 months, 2-3 years, over 3 years)?

2 - 3 years

4) [Canadian residents] What is 125 plus 45 divided by 3 minus 13?

Canadian, but not resident, however...

Multiple answers, depending on order of operation...

Straight entry = 43 2/3
BEDMAS = 127
2 by 2 grouping = -17 [170 / -10]
Right grouping = 120 1/2 [125 + (45 / (3 - 13))]

1) Yes-- I own one 30GB kingston, which is currently idling in a HTPC project on hold.  I'm not planning on purchasing any others until price/GB comes down even farther.

2) While I'm not shopping for any SSDs at the moment, my main concerns are (a) reliability, (b) price/GB, (c) speed-- in that order.

3) Between desktops and laptops, I prob buy parts equivalent to a desktop every 12-18 months, but I only buy a "whole" computer (i.e. off-the-shelf laptop) every 2-3 years.

4) Boston, USA.  But really, what *isn't* 125 plus 45 divided by 3 minus 13, these days?

4.1) 125 + (45/3) -13 = 127

thanks!

1) Do you currently own an SSD? Are you planning on purchasing one or more in the near future?

No. Yes, I would like to purchase one for my next PC build.

2) If you’re planning on purchasing an SSD, which brand(s) are you considering and why (price, performance, reliability, brand, etc.)?

While I am not married to any brand, price/performance/capacity are my primary concerns. I want to be able to get a couple of current-gen games and the OS on the drive.

3) How often do you purchase a new PC (every 12 months or less, every 12-18 months, 18-24 months, 2-3 years, over 3 years)?

     Usually over 3 years.

4) [Canadian residents] What is 125 plus 45 divided by 3 minus 13?

    127, baby.

1) Do you currently own an SSD? Are you planning on purchasing one or more in the near future?
Do not currently own one, but my next ultraportable laptop purchase will probably have one.

2) If you’re planning on purchasing an SSD, which brand(s) are you considering and why (price, performance, reliability, brand, etc.)?
If I am buying just the drive, it will probably be an OCZ because of their good performance and reviews.

3) How often do you purchase a new PC (every 12 months or less, every 12-18 months, 18-24 months, 2-3 years, over 3 years)?
Every 6 months on average.

4) [Canadian residents] What is 125 plus 45 divided by 3 minus 13?

1) Do you currently own an SSD? Are you planning on purchasing one or more in the near future?
I have an OCZ 60 GB and plan on getting a bigger one.

2) If you’re planning on purchasing an SSD, which brand(s) are you considering and why (price, performance, reliability, brand, etc.)?
I'm considering most brands, especially brands that have a high throughput. Price-Performance ratio is also important. The Intel 520 seems very competitive to the OCZ offerings.

3) How often do you purchase a new PC (every 12 months or less, every 12-18 months, 18-24 months, 2-3 years, over 3 years)?
I upgrade my PCs quite often, although it might be as much as 18-24 months between complete replacements.

4) [Canadian residents] What is 125 plus 45 divided by 3 minus 13?
I live in the USA. PM me for my solution...

1) Do you currently own an SSD? Are you planning on purchasing one or more in the near future?
Currently do not own an SSD but I have plans to buy one when Intel releases their new line of processors and I upgrade.

2) If you’re planning on purchasing an SSD, which brand(s) are you considering and why (price, performance, reliability, brand, etc.)?
Intel, Crucial and OCZ are the two that I am looking into. I am basing this off of great reviews from both professionals at review sites and customers at online stores.

3) How often do you purchase a new PC (every 12 months or less, every 12-18 months, 18-24 months, 2-3 years, over 3 years)?
About every 3 years.

4) [Canadian residents] What is 125 plus 45 divided by 3 minus 13?
N/A

1. Do not currently own. Did not plan on purchasing as it is generally out of my budget range.

2. No answer, as I didn't plan on purchasing one. If I were, it'd be about value; price vs. performance and reliability.

3. About every 2-3 years.

4. US Citizen.

good luck everyone!

Oh yay, time for more people to complain and demand and threaten to never come back to the site when it takes a little longer to pick a winner than their own personal timetable! azz.gif

Anyways, here's my answers:

1) Do you currently own an SSD? Are you planning on purchasing one or more in the near future?
No, I do not own an SSD. I am one of the millions of unemployed in America, and cannot afford an SSD, let alone food... When I get a job and pay off some newly acquired debt, I want to build a new Ivy Bridge desktop to replace my aging Gateway P-7811fx.

2) If you’re planning on purchasing an SSD, which brand(s) are you considering and why (price, performance, reliability, brand, etc.)?
Really, before the 520 came out, I wasn't considering Intel. But with these new Cherryville's being just as fast as the best, but made to be more reliable -- I can finally honestly say I would/will get an Intel 520 for that upcoming build.

3) How often do you purchase a new PC (every 12 months or less, every 12-18 months, 18-24 months, 2-3 years, over 3 years)?
I usually go 3-4 years before a major overhaul -- with upgrades in between.

4) [Canadian residents] What is 125 plus 45 divided by 3 minus 13?
I'm not Canadian, but here's my answer anyways:
125 + 45 / 3 = HOCKEY, EH?

Thanks for another giveaway! headbang.gif

1) Do you currently own an SSD? Are you planning on purchasing one or more in the near future?

Yes, I own a Crucial and looking for another SSD to add to my laptop.

2) If you’re planning on purchasing an SSD, which brand(s) are you considering and why (price, performance, reliability, brand, etc.)?

Kingston, Crucial, Intel are all on my list. Price, performance, and reliability are all the main factors with brand being more minor.

3) How often do you purchase a new PC (every 12 months or less, every 12-18 months, 18-24 months, 2-3 years, over 3 years)?

I average a new PC about once a year.
