I wish to amend my answer to the math one by stating that the correct answer is 42

1) Do you currently own an SSD? Are you planning on purchasing one or more in the near future?
Yes. I have two laptops, one an ASUS G73JH with an SSD in it, and another a current gen Macbook Air. I definitely am--space is always a concern for me and so another SSD would definitely be a welcome addition.

2) If you’re planning on purchasing an SSD, which brand(s) are you considering and why (price, performance, reliability, brand, etc.)?
I'm sticking mostly to Intel. I had some bad experiences with Kingston, and so I just love Intel's reputation for having rock-solid SSDs

3) How often do you purchase a new PC (every 12 months or less, every 12-18 months, 18-24 months, 2-3 years, over 3 years)?

4) [Canadian residents] What is 125 plus 45 divided by 3 minus 13? I'm not Canadian, silly!

1. Do not own an SSD but would like to get one when prices props a bit.
2. Intel- speed, reliability.
3. every 24-36 mnt.
4. 127
1. Yep, a Corsair Force GT 240GB. I got it for Christmas, and though I was worried about performance and reliability, it's been great so far.

2. I'd like to get one for my laptop eventually, but other things have taken priority. The brands I considered were Corsair, Crucial, and Intel.

3. I try and stick to every 2-3, though I just replace some stuff in my 3 year old desktop and hope that staves off the inevitable for awhile.

1) Do you currently own an SSD? Are you planning on purchasing one or more in the near future?

Currently, I do not own an SSD. Yes, I planned on purchasing one in the future.

2) If you’re planning on purchasing an SSD, which brand(s) are you considering and why (price, performance, reliability, brand, etc.)?

Crucial M4, Samsung 830, or Intel 320. These models seemed to be the most reliable from reviews I have seen.

3) How often do you purchase a new PC (every 12 months or less, every 12-18 months, 18-24 months, 2-3 years, over 3 years)?

Every 12-18 months

1) Do you currently own an SSD? Are you planning on purchasing one or more in the near future?
No, I currently do not own an SSD. I plan on purchasing one in the future...if I can afford it!

2) If you’re planning on purchasing an SSD, which brand(s) are you considering and why (price, performance, reliability, brand, etc.)?
I hear great things about Crucial, OCZ, Corsair, Mushkin, Intel, and Samsung. Depending on the timeline of when I'll be getting an SSD, I will be choosing out of those brands mainly.

3) How often do you purchase a new PC (every 12 months or less, every 12-18 months, 18-24 months, 2-3 years, over 3 years)?
I do not purchase new PCs; I build my own. I would change/upgrade a part about ever 12-18 months. These days, technology is so durable and sustainable that upgrading can wait for a longer period of time.

4) [Canadian residents] What is 125 plus 45 divided by 3 minus 13?
Not Canadian but if you solve it in that order, it's 43.67 (rounded).

Yes and yes!

Yes, I currently only a couple of OCZs with horrible firmware upgrade processes. If only the Intel series were available back then...

And yes, I do plan on buying one or two more this year when I upgrade to SATA3 (6Gbps), like the Intel 520 series are! smile.gif

2) If you’re planning on purchasing an SSD, which brand(s) are you considering and why (price, performance, reliability, brand, etc.)?
Intel 500 series for reliability! I am self-employed so I need absolutely reliable hardware in my machines to keep things going.

The OCZ drivers have not been that in the past.

Every 12 months or less.

I actually build all of my equipment, including overhauling my own laptops to higher-end internals. So thinking about the frequency I buy-upgrade-format, I'd say every 6 months (which fits into the 12 months or less).

I live in New York, US. And hopefully I am not giving away the answer here, but it is 2 (cause it said to answer all questions). laughing.gif

1. Do not currenly have one, but have priced them and will be getting one soon!

2. Intel, OCZ, Crucial, Corsair, Patriot and possibly other quality brands that come out with one.

3.Every couple years for laptops. Desktops are about every 3-4 years.

4. I'm not Canadien either but since order of operations is multiply/divide first then add/subtract after that, I would say it is 127.

Thanks
Chris

1) Do you currently own an SSD? Are you planning on purchasing one or more in the near future?
Yes, 1x OCZ Vertex 3 120GB, 2x OCZ Vertex 2 120GBs (mirrored in a Database server) and 1x Transcend 32GB PATA
I'm not sure; I just upgraded my main laptop to the Segate Momentus XT 750GB, and having both tonnes of space + fast SSD performance has kept the SSD bug from biting me too hard. :-)

2) If you’re planning on purchasing an SSD, which brand(s) are you considering and why (price, performance, reliability, brand, etc.)?
Probably more OCZs Vertex/Agility 2 or 3s, as they have (essentially) automatic TRIM built into their Sandforce controllers, and I will be putting them in older machines (Mac and/or Unix) that don't support TRIM.

3) How often do you purchase a new PC (every 12 months or less, every 12-18 months, 18-24 months, 2-3 years, over 3 years)?
I used to buy a new laptop every year or so, but since the Core2Duo I've been happy enough with performance that I have been going 2-4 years before buying new ones.
1) No, and I have no plans to purchase one in the immediate future due to high price per GB.

2) Have not looked yet, but would consider price, performance and reliability.

3) Over 3 years, because I am a poor grad student.

4) Not Canadian.

1. Yes - I have a Crucial M4 and an Intel X-25M as a backup.
Yes - planning to purchase a new one very soon.

2. Either the Intel 520 (for speed on the SATA III bus) or the Samsung 830 (for value and reliability).

3. Buy a new laptop every 2 years

4. Not Canadian.

I don't own a SSD.
I plan a purchase in the future if they can keep descent speeds and keep the price around 50 cents a gig.
I go through computers/laptops at around 2years.

1) Do you currently own an SSD? Are you planning on purchasing one or more in the near future?

  • I don't currently own one but I'd like to get one once the price comes down.  I suspect I will buy one this year if I don't win this contest.

2) If you’re planning on purchasing an SSD, which brand(s) are you considering and why (price, performance, reliability, brand, etc.)?

  • I would buy a major brand only: Intel, or equal SATA III. Performance and warranty are the primary considerations.

3) How often do you purchase a new PC (every 12 months or less, every 12-18 months, 18-24 months, 2-3 years, over 3 years)?

  • New laptop every 18-24 months

I don't own one but I am considering getting one soon, to try and get a bit more life out of my macbook.

2) If you’re planning on purchasing an SSD, which brand(s) are you considering and why (price, performance, reliability, brand, etc.)?

Haven't got far yet but price will probably be the deciding factor.

3) How often do you purchase a new PC (every 12 months or less, every 12-18 months, 18-24 months, 2-3 years, over 3 years)?

More than every 3 years.
