Intel Cherryville SSD Giveaway - ended 20 March 2012 - Page 20

1) Do you currently own an SSD? Are you planning on purchasing one or more in the near future?

Yes, I currently have a Kingston SSDNow V+ 100 in my home gaming rig and an OCZ Vertex 2 in my aging personal laptop.
Installing these SSD drives improved the performance of both machines, but made a dramatic difference in my five year old laptop - which now feels fast enough to keep for another year or two.

2) If you’re planning on purchasing an SSD, which brand(s) are you considering and why (price, performance, reliability, brand, etc.)?

I am not currently planning to purchase another SSD drive but, if I was, I would try to carefully balance price against performance and wait for a really good deal.
I would dearly love to own an Intel SSD because of their hard-earned reputation for quality, but they are so expensive that I would probably never buy one for myself.

3) How often do you purchase a new PC (every 12 months or less, every 12-18 months, 18-24 months, 2-3 years, over 3 years)?

I generally build a new computer every three to four years.
I upgrade components more frequently, as finances permit.

4) [Canadian residents] What is 125 plus 45 divided by 3 minus 13?

I am a resident of the United States of America, so I don't think this applies to me.

>>1) Do you currently own an SSD? Are you planning on purchasing one or more in the near future?

No, I don't currently own one but would consider purchasing one the next time a drive needed replacing.

>>2) If you’re planning on purchasing an SSD, which brand(s) are you considering and why (price, performance, reliability, brand, etc.)?

Any brand, my main factor governing computer purchases is price.

>>3) How often do you purchase a new PC (every 12 months or less, every 12-18 months, 18-24 months, 2-3 years, over 3 years)?

With five computers in our house it seems I'm always upgrading but I have not bought a full computer in 18 months.

>>4) [Canadian residents] What is 125 plus 45 divided by 3 minus 13?

127

Intel, Crucial and OCZ are the two that I am looking into. I am basing this off of great reviews from both professionals at review sites and customers at online stores.

3) How often do you purchase a new PC (every 12 months or less, every 12-18 months, 18-24 months, 2-3 years, over 3 years)?
About every 2 years.

1) Do you currently own an SSD? Are you planning on purchasing one or more in the near future?

Yes, I own a Samsung 470 256gb which I bought mainly for faster streaming of large sampled piano libraries and such. I am a keyboard player.

2) If you’re planning on purchasing an SSD, which brand(s) are you considering and why (price, performance, reliability, brand, etc.)?

I plan on purchasing another once I upgrade my PC (some time this year). I will go for whichever SATA 6 Gbit/s model provides the best performance and reliability at the time.

1) Do you currently own an SSD? Are you planning on purchasing one or more in the near future?

I currently own 2 Intel SSD's. One in my new laptop and one in my old laptop. I'm thinking about upgrading so this would make the decision easier.

2) If you’re planning on purchasing an SSD, which brand(s) are you considering and why (price, performance, reliability, brand, etc.)?

I usually trust intel just because of the reliability which is more important to me and don't even both looking at other brands until something changes.

3) How often do you purchase a new PC (every 12 months or less, every 12-18 months, 18-24 months, 2-3 years, over 3 years)?

12 months to 18 months I would change a whole system, but occasionally upgrade things in between.

4) [Canadian residents] What is 125 plus 45 divided by 3 minus 13?

For the math question, 127

Thanks

Id love to add a ssd. Intel are great I always buy intel reliability but cand affoerd a ssd.

1) I don't currently own ssd best I have is raid. I'd definutly like to buy one in the future.

2) I would consider itel and seagate. Reliability and price are main considerations. As the jump in performace is so great regardless speed relative to other models is less of a consideration.

3) I buy a new pc of laptop, 18-24 months,

Many thanks

No. Yes, I would like to purchase one for my next PC build as I am watching prices become a bit more reasonable.

2) If you’re planning on purchasing an SSD, which brand(s) are you considering and why (price, performance, reliability, brand, etc.)?

I am not married to any brand, price/performance/capacity are my primary concerns.

3) How often do you purchase a new PC (every 12 months or less, every 12-18 months, 18-24 months, 2-3 years, over 3 years)?

Average is 3 years.

1) Yes, I own a Crucial 256 SSD. Yes, I am planning to purchase more SSDs for laptops and other computers in the home.

2) I am looking to purchase SSDs from Crucial or Intel. I like these brands because of the consistency, reliability and speed of the products.

3) I usually upgrade every 2-3 years.

1) Do you currently own an SSD? Are you planning on purchasing one or more in the near future?

No but i would love to have run to make my pc run faster.

2) If you’re planning on purchasing an SSD, which brand(s) are you considering and why (price, performance, reliability, brand, etc.)?

I wish to say that it would not come down to price, but with the economy it will.  I have looked at both the intel and samsung ssd.

3) How often do you purchase a new PC (every 12 months or less, every 12-18 months, 18-24 months, 2-3 years, over 3 years)?

Being a teacher it is more like every 7 to 8 years to purchase a new computer.

Yes, I currently own an SSD.

2) If you’re planning on purchasing an SSD, which brand(s) are you considering and why (price, performance, reliability, brand, etc.)?
I purchased an Intel based on their reputation for quality, performance and reliability.

3) How often do you purchase a new PC (every 12 months or less, every 12-18 months, 18-24 months, 2-3 years, over 3 years)?
Over 3 years.

4) [Canadian residents] What is 125 plus 45 divided by 3 minus 13

Could be interpreted 3 ways; 125 + 45 = 170, divided by 3 = 56.667, minus 13 = 43.667.

or: (125+45) divided by (3-13) = -17

or: 125 + (45 divided by 3) - 13 = 127

Thanks to the Forum and Intel for providing the contest.

Best regards
Ross

1) Do you currently own an SSD? Are you planning on purchasing one or more in the near future?
I do have a SSD in my home built computer which is approximately 6 years old. It is a Micro Center brand 60GB. I'm in the process of researching on building a new home built computer and this new Intel SSD would really kick start my new system. The SSD is utilized right now for my operating system and various programs. The same process would be utilized in new home built system.

2) If you’re planning on purchasing an SSD, which brand(s) are you considering and why (price, performance, reliability, brand, etc.)?
When I originally bought my first SSD, it was a christmas special and price was the main issue at the time. Now I'm considering other issues such as performance, speed, and reliability. The new SSD by Intel would answer all my issues on all fronts. This would be the Operating system drive.

3) How often do you purchase a new PC (every 12 months or less, every 12-18 months, 18-24 months, 2-3 years, over 3 years)?
I am in the "over 3 years" mark for my personal desktop, but have been upgrading for all other members of the family. With a household of 3 ladies, I have taken care of them first and now it's my turn. It's the year of Dad and the new SSD would jump start everything.

I am 100% U.S. Citizen/American but live pretty darn close to the Canadian border. Live in Blaine, MN.

Yes, I own quite a few SSDs. I generally buy Intel because I find their firmware very stable. I have a 300GB 320 series in my current notebook, a 160GB G2 in my backup notebook, and two 80GB G2's in my server. I also have some older Indilinx-based OCZ Vertex 1's and Agility 1's. I will be buying more SSDs in the future... that is a definite.

I've "converted" others (like my boss) to fans of SSDs as well. Not that I push them on anybody, because I'm not that type of nerd. They see how fast things launch on my notebook, and the benefits of SSDs are immediately obvious to them.

I've been considering an Intel 710 for my server. Sandforce performance and low write amplification, plus Intel's stable firmware. That's a good combination.

Long story short, each of my machines is replaced every 3-4 years. So I'm buying a new computer once every 18-24 months. Thanks to upgrades like solid-state drives, I find computers last me a lot longer now before I outgrow their performance.

1) Do you currently own an SSD? Are you planning on purchasing one or more in the near future?

I do not currently own an SSD, and I had not planned on buying one. I almost spec'd one out in my last laptop (m6400). The benefits are countless, but size does matter in a mobile workstation.

2) If you’re planning on purchasing an SSD, which brand(s) are you considering and why (price, performance, reliability, brand, etc.)?

N/A.

3) How often do you purchase a new PC (every 12 months or less, every 12-18 months, 18-24 months, 2-3 years, over 3 years)?

Every 18months. I support a very large enterprise network, and my laptop takes a pounding.

Blame Canada! winknudge.gif

Thanks for the opportunity...

Yes, a first-gen Kingston 128 GB SSD used as my game storage drive. Makes my games load pretty fast. I've got an older computer (AMD X2 6000+, 8 GB RAM, Radeon HD 6850) and I still am in the map before many others with brand new rigs.

When I build a new machine, I'll probably get a larger SSD to use for the same purpose. 128 GB is limiting and I've had to store games I don't play as often on a regular hard drive. It hurts me to see game and map load times fall so hard when I do that! If I somehow have more cash available, I wouldn't mind getting two -- one for OS, one for games. Or, RAID0 them and reap the benefits of hot, nasty speed.

Brands I'm considering:
  • Otherworld Computing - Among the best warranty in the business (3-5 years, and growing) and one of the top performers. They're geared toward Macs but they'll work with anything. That their drives are built in the USA is neat.
  • Kingston - I've always been impressed with their performance, and prices are pretty good.
  • OCZ - Their devices always seem to have amazing performance, and I'm not going to lie -- the RevoDrive X2 kinda gets me hot and bothered.
  • Intel - The mother of them all, but priced like it, or so it seems.

Honorable mentions: Crucial/Micron, Patriot, Super Talent, ADATA. All good companies with good products.

I normally did every three years, but my current rig is coming up on five because of other purchases (laptop, nettop, DSLR, etc.). I'll definitely replace it this year. I also try to replace my laptop every two years, and this happens to be the first year that they've crossed in a while.

I'm not Canadian, but I do like math: 127, if proper order of operations is followed. 44.3333... if as written.

1) Yes I currently Own an SSD (Intel 320 model)

2) I would only consider INTEL brand SSD's for their high level of reliability, moderate cost, and great application support with Intels own SSD Toolbox program, and Migration Utility

3) I purchase a new PC every 24 months

4) 127

Thank you

1) Do you currently own an SSD? Are you planning on purchasing one or more in the near future?

no. i actually just finished building my new PC, and couldn't afford a decent SSD, so i ended up getting a SATA3 HDD instead. it would be interesting to see though, just how fast an SSD is by comparison with a SATA3 :3

2) If you’re planning on purchasing an SSD, which brand(s) are you considering and why (price, performance, reliability, brand, etc.)?

Intel, actually. i've done my research, and there seems to be more happy end-users with Intel SSDs, plus, their specs don't hurt them either...

3) How often do you purchase a new PC (every 12 months or less, every 12-18 months, 18-24 months, 2-3 years, over 3 years)?

actually, i don't purchase PCs. not since my first one, which was an old Win95 one for $100 (in 2000!). i build my own. know just what i'm getting then, and i'm assured that i can upgrade later, when i get more money...

4) [Canadian residents] What is 125 plus 45 divided by 3 minus 13?

not Canadian NOW, but FROM Canadia, so here goes: 43 and two-thirds [done in my head, without a calc :) ].

hope i passed the test!
