Intel Cherryville SSD Giveaway - ended 20 March 2012 - Page 26

Questions, questions. So many interesting questions...

First, do I currently own an SSD? Yes, I own a terrible tiny Phison SSD that came with my Asus EeePC 1000. It's technically an SSD, without all the perks of being an SSD.

Am I planning on purchasing one or more in the near future? Yes! I have been shopping around for a few months now, looking to revamp my desktop to be more in line with current tech. Sadly, I haven't found one within my price point for the capacity I need.

Second, since I am planning on purchasing an SSD, which brand(s) am I considering and why (price, performance, reliability, brand, etc.)?
I've looked at Intel in the past and didn't give them much thought due to capacity, which is a biggie with me. I do a lot of video editing, so having capacity is key for large files (read: double digit GB). Now with the larger 240GB model, it's within my scope and price range to be the perfect addition to an Intel i7 Extreme Edition system. Gotta love cutting edge tech.

Third, how often do I purchase a new PC (every 12 months or less, every 12-18 months, 18-24 months, 2-3 years, over 3 years)?
I usually revamp my system whenever a significant OS upgrade appears on the market. When I change my setup, I usually redo the whole thing, re-install all the software, start fresh. It's easier to install the new hardware in a new OS that supports the latest features of the hardware natively.

And fourth, if I am Canadian, what is 125 plus 45 divided by 3 minus 13?
Since I have some land in Canada, but not a legal resident myself, I'll take a stab at it and say 43 and 2/3 according to order of operations. I took 36 credits worth of math for my degree, so might as well make them useful.

1) Well - I do not own one, but my work Laptop do have one smile.gif

2) I'm not looking at a specific brand, but OCZ and Intel is among those I look at. Reliability and performance is important for me.

3) Actually I'm building my computers and replace different parts over time. However - motherboard and CPU is every 2-3 years.

4) I skip this - I'm from Denmark tongue.gif

1) Do not own one. I would like to purchase one soon

2) Intel. Performance and Reliability are important.

3) 12-18 months

4) U.S. citizen

1) NO. hopefully.

2) open to most. will review mac forums to ensure its fully compatible, reliable, performance in that sequence.

3) 12- 18 for pc. however my current macbook is still very strong so 18-24 month or 2-3 years if the SSd gives as good performance boost as expected.

4) UK based. Depends on brackets - 127 or 43.66

only reason not upgraded before is latest macbook speed is still excellent and prices were very high when i first purchased the macbook.

Simon.

1) Do you currently own an SSD? Are you planning on purchasing one or more in the near future?
Yes, I own several SSDs. Yes, I will definitely be purchasing one or more in the near future.

2) If you’re planning on purchasing an SSD, which brand(s) are you considering and why (price, performance, reliability, brand, etc.)?
I am considering Intel (for reliability and brand) and Crucial (for performance). I have 4 Intel SSDs and over a dozen OCZ Vertex and Vertex 2 SSDs. I'm done buying OCZ because of recent failures and poor support.

3) How often do you purchase a new PC (every 12 months or less, every 12-18 months, 18-24 months, 2-3 years, over 3 years)?
I purchase a new PC (from a manufacturer) about every 2-3 years. I build my own PC about every 4 months.

4) [Canadian residents] What is 125 plus 45 divided by 3 minus 13?

WOW! I was just looking into getting one for my laptop this week but I definitely would not mind winning one so here goes...

1) Do you currently own an SSD? Are you planning on purchasing one or more in the near future?
No, don't own one yet and still have not made up my mind on SSD or one o those HYBRID ones.

2) If you’re planning on purchasing an SSD, which brand(s) are you considering and why (price, performance, reliability, brand, etc.)?
Been hearing a lot about Intel's SSD so if I take the plunge I would not mind going with intel

3) How often do you purchase a new PC (every 12 months or less, every 12-18 months, 18-24 months, 2-3 years, over 3 years)?
My laptop gets replaced 18-24 months.

1) Do you currently own an SSD? Are you planning on purchasing one or more in the near future?
No, but when I need to replace my current HTPC, I will look at them to minimize noise.

2) If you’re planning on purchasing an SSD, which brand(s) are you considering and why (price, performance, reliability, brand, etc.)?
Have not started looking at them yet. I would consider the reliability and price to be the main factors for my decisions.

3) How often do you purchase a new PC (every 12 months or less, every 12-18 months, 18-24 months, 2-3 years, over 3 years)?
about every 3 years, depending on what is included in the PC category.

4) [Canadian residents] What is 125 plus 45 divided by 3 minus 13?
Not Canadian, but I agree with the 127 answer, based on PEMDAS.

1) Do you currently own an SSD? Are you planning on purchasing one or more in the near future?
Don't own one currently and keep holding off getting one due to budget constraints smile.gif

2) If you’re planning on purchasing an SSD, which brand(s) are you considering and why (price, performance, reliability, brand, etc.)?
Price would be the main consideration for me and it seems that Crucial and OCZ often win on that point. I think any SSD would show a significant improvement over the standard drives I've got so am not so concerned with performance and reliability factors. The hybrid Seagate Momentus XT seemed like an interesting concept but if I were to spend the money anyway, I think a normal SSD would be the way to go to get the full speed advantage and reliability. However, I think Intel has a solid brand and would expect their product to be excellent so would love to win this...

3) How often do you purchase a new PC (every 12 months or less, every 12-18 months, 18-24 months, 2-3 years, over 3 years)?
Rarely. Last purchase was a bare bones kit about two years ago. Recently was given an older iMac which I would love to upgrade with a SSD. Generally I hold out and try to make the most of what I have but updating components as they wear out rather than buy a whole new machine.

4) [Canadian residents] What is 125 plus 45 divided by 3 minus 13?
43 2/3 - Not Canadian but the instructions said you wanted answers to all the questions so.

Thanks for the contest.

No. I'll get one built into my future new laptop

2) If you’re planning on purchasing an SSD, which brand(s) are you considering and why (price, performance, reliability, brand, etc.)?
Have not read much

3) How often do you purchase a new PC (every 12 months or less, every 12-18 months, 18-24 months, 2-3 years, over 3 years)?
I upgrade every 2-3 yrs.

4) [Canadian residents] What is 125 plus 45 divided by 3 minus 13?
125 + (45/3) - 3 = 125 + 15 -3 = 140 -3 = 137

4) [Canadian residents] What is 125 plus 45 divided by 3 minus 13?
that's tough, my guess is 127
1) Yes, and I just purchased another one. Will most likely use them for almost everything going foward.

2) Corsair and Intel seem to have the best consistent reviews.

3) Every 2 years or so.

1) Do you currently own an SSD? Are you planning on purchasing one or more in the near future?

I don't own SSD currently and don't plan on purchasing one until my budget allows.

2) If you’re planning on purchasing an SSD, which brand(s) are you considering and why (price, performance, reliability, brand, etc.)?

When budget allows, I will consider Intel SSD for my laptop with the following prioritized from 1-4 where 1 has the most importance:

1. Brand
2. Reliability
3. Price
4. Performance

3) How often do you purchase a new PC (every 12 months or less, every 12-18 months, 18-24 months, 2-3 years, over 3 years)?

Over 3 years

1) Do you currently own an SSD? Are you planning on purchasing one or more in the near future?

I do not currently own an SSD, but will put one in my next build. I have a need for speed...

2) If you’re planning on purchasing an SSD, which brand(s) are you considering and why (price, performance, reliability, brand, etc.)?

Have not settled on any specific brand as of yet. However, reviews I have read have been positive for Intel and OCZ. Main considerations are bang for buck, i.e. looking for the best price that provides performance and reliability.

3) How often do you purchase a new PC (every 12 months or less, every 12-18 months, 18-24 months, 2-3 years, over 3 years)?

PC replacement is usually 2-3 years with upgrades in between. Old PC is cycled to someone else in the family who isn't so concerned about having the newest stuff (my wife or my kid).

4) [Canadian residents] What is 125 plus 45 divided by 3 minus 13?

While I am not a Canadian resident, you specifically say please answer all questions. Not sure if this qualifies as an answer so... As no parenthesis are written in the equation, I am assuming it should be done as a left to right equation - 125+45/3-13= 43.6666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666 (etc.)

2) If you’re planning on purchasing an SSD, which brand(s) are you considering and why (price, performance, reliability, brand, etc.)?

When budget allows, I will consider any manufacturer for my desktop SSD (laptop SSDs still too cost prohibitive IMO) with the following prioritized from 1-4 where 1 has the most importance:

1. Performance
2. Price
3. Reliability
4. Brand

3) How often do you purchase a new PC (every 12 months or less, every 12-18 months, 18-24 months, 2-3 years, over 3 years)?

For my desktop: I upgrade parts constantly. Total overhaul about every 2 - 3 years.
For my laptop: Over 3 years
For the kids: Over 3 years.

1) Do you currently own an SSD? Are you planning on purchasing one or more in the near future?

No, I don't currently own an SSD. With my limited income, no plans in the future for any hardware purchases.

2) If you’re planning on purchasing an SSD, which brand(s) are you considering and why (price, performance, reliability, brand, etc.)?

N/A

3) How often do you purchase a new PC (every 12 months or less, every 12-18 months, 18-24 months, 2-3 years, over 3 years)?

I used to purchase new PC's based on the following formula. 3X speed increase or 3 years whichever came first. Now, no foreseeable purchase plans

4) [Canadian residents] What is 125 plus 45 divided by 3 minus 13?

Depends on what rules you use. 125 + 45 = 170, 170/3 = 56.66666667, 56.66666667 - 13 = 43.66666667
OR 125 + (45/3) = 140, 140 - 13 = 127.
So either 43.66666667 or 127 :-D

1) Do you currently own an SSD? Are you planning on purchasing one or more in the near future?

Yes

2) If you’re planning on purchasing an SSD, which brand(s) are you considering and why (price, performance, reliability, brand, etc.)?

Price/Performance ratio. It makes sense only if the cost per performance makes sense.

3) How often do you purchase a new PC (every 12 months or less, every 12-18 months, 18-24 months, 2-3 years, over 3 years)?

every 18-24 month

1) Do you currently own an SSD? Are you planning on purchasing one or more in the near future?
Not yet, however I am looking at purchasing one (or several) for both home and work
2) If you’re planning on purchasing an SSD, which brand(s) are you considering and why (price, performance, reliability, brand, etc.)?
I am looking at both OCZ and Intel right now based on reviews and performance.
3) How often do you purchase a new PC (every 12 months or less, every 12-18 months, 18-24 months, 2-3 years, over 3 years)?
I purchase a new home PC every 3 to 5 years; however, I tend to do upgrades to it every 12-18 months as needed. At work we upgrade our systems every year - this year we are considering putting SSD's into our servers hosting VM's.
4) [Canadian residents] What is 125 plus 45 divided by 3 minus 13?
I am not Canadian, however the Official rules state that everyone is supposed to answer this question. Therefore, the answer is 127.
