Intel Cherryville SSD Giveaway - ended 20 March 2012 - Page 30

1) Do you currently own an SSD? Are you planning on purchasing one or more in the near future? - No I currently don't own an SSD, but I am considering purchasing one in the near future.

2) If you’re planning on purchasing an SSD, which brand(s) are you considering and why (price, performance, reliability, brand, etc.)? - Intel, Corsair, OCZ, and Crucial are the main brands I'm considering, because I've heard good things and I've used other products from each company and they have been excellent.

3) How often do you purchase a new PC (every 12 months or less, every 12-18 months, 18-24 months, 2-3 years, over 3 years)? - I usually build a new PC (purchase the parts) every 18-24 typically.

1. I own a Crucial m4 64GB and it's getting a little too snug. I don't have SSD caching on my P67 so I use this as my boot/most important application drive. I am planning on having an SSD in every machine I own or frequently service (family member's computers.) It simply is no longer OK to wait minutes for booting up or installing software. SSDs have revolutionized not computing, but practicality and enjoyment of computers.

2. I am planning on Intel, Crucial or Samsung drives. All 3 brands have a decent record. I am considering Intel as the strongest competitor with the 320 series due to the 5 year warranty and their excellent reliability record.

3. I build my own and my family's PCs myself. How long they last really depends on the usage. The 'family PC' everyone uses now and then for email, surfing or light entertainment typically goes about 6 years, then receives a few major upgrades or gets scrapped. My gaming machine goes 2-3 years before major upgrades or replacement.

4. I am not a canadian resident. However, in an effort to show solidarity with our friends up North, I calculate this to result in 127.

1) Do you currently own an SSD? Are you planning on purchasing one or more in the near future?
Do not currently own one, but my next laptop purchase will probably have one.

2) If you’re planning on purchasing an SSD, which brand(s) are you considering and why (price, performance, reliability, brand, etc.)?
If I am buying just the drive, it would be a OCZ because they have good performance ratings.

3) How often do you purchase a new PC (every 12 months or less, every 12-18 months, 18-24 months, 2-3 years, over 3 years)?
Every 8-12 months on average.

4) [Canadian residents] What is 125 plus 45 divided by 3 minus 13?

1) Do you currently own an SSD? Are you planning on purchasing one or more in the near future?
No - don't own one now. Will get one in the next year or so - need to cut the heat of the laptop. Waiting for price + size to be more reasonable.

2) If you’re planning on purchasing an SSD, which brand(s) are you considering and why (price, performance, reliability, brand, etc.)?
I wouldn't call it in the planning stage yet - but Intel would be on the list as well as the other big-name makers like Crucial, OCZ, etc. Will review at that point.

3) How often do you purchase a new PC (every 12 months or less, every 12-18 months, 18-24 months, 2-3 years, over 3 years)?
About every 2-3 years - leaning towards the 3 year mark.

4) [Canadian residents] What is 125 plus 45 divided by 3 minus 13?
Not Canadian.

1) Do you currently own an SSD? Are you planning on purchasing one or more in the near future?

I own a 160GB Intel X25-M G2 and 160GB Intel SSD 320. I want to get a 240GB Intel SSD 520 soon.

2) If you’re planning on purchasing an SSD, which brand(s) are you considering and why (price, performance, reliability, brand, etc.)?

About 50% of the people I know with OCZ Sandforce drives have experienced catastrophic failures. OCZ's firmware update process and software leaves much to be desired. I had completely written off Sandforce controllers until Intel announced Cherryville. I wouldn't consider any other brand. Intel reliability is the best. The price could be better. The performance of Cherryville is close enough to other Sandforce drives.

See the AnandTech review of the Intel SSD 520 for a clear analysis of this outstanding drive.

3) How often do you purchase a new PC (every 12 months or less, every 12-18 months, 18-24 months, 2-3 years, over 3 years)?

Every 2-3 years for both desktop PC and laptop.

4) [Canadian residents] What is 125 plus 45 divided by 3 minus 13?

Why are you tormenting Canadians by requiring them to answer arithmetic problems?

With operator precedence 125 + (45 / 3) - 13 = 127 (the correct answer)
Without operator precedence (125 + 45) / 3 - 13 = 43 2/3 (some calculators do this)

1) Do you currently own an SSD? Are you planning on purchasing one or more in the near future?

I do not currently own an SSD. I have no immediate plans to buy an SSD.

2) If you’re planning on purchasing an SSD, which brand(s) are you considering and why (price, performance, reliability, brand, etc.)?

I have not done any research at this point as to which brands are best etc, but my tendencies would be towards existing manufacturers with general good reliability history (Intel, Seagate, WD, etc). I would consider reliability as paramount, then the performance/price ratio as secondary.

3) How often do you purchase a new PC (every 12 months or less, every 12-18 months, 18-24 months, 2-3 years, over 3 years)?

Over 3 years. Historically I have replaced my PC every 3 years, although my current one has performed adequately for 6 years but definitely needs replacing soon.

4) [Canadian residents] What is 125 plus 45 divided by 3 minus 13?

= 127 (following correct algebraic rules).

1) Do you currently own an SSD? Are you planning on purchasing one or more in the near future?
No I do not currently own. Yes I am planning to purchase one (my current desktop rig is bottlenecked by HDD performance)

2) If you’re planning on purchasing an SSD, which brand(s) are you considering and why (price, performance, reliability, brand, etc.)?
Intel, Samsung, OCZ. I do this based on reviews. And try to find the sweet spot between price, performance, reliability. Brand doesn't matter if it can deliver.

3) How often do you purchase a new PC (every 12 months or less, every 12-18 months, 18-24 months, 2-3 years, over 3 years)?
About every 3 years for a new desktop rig. Basically when it can no longer play the latest games

1) Do you currently own an SSD? Are you planning on purchasing one or more in the near future?

I do not own an SSD but want to grab one. Strapped for cash though!

2) If you’re planning on purchasing an SSD, which brand(s) are you considering and why (price, performance, reliability, brand, etc.)?

I swear by Intel, but am considering other brands depending on best price.

3) How often do you purchase a new PC (every 12 months or less, every 12-18 months, 18-24 months, 2-3 years, over 3 years)?

2-3 years. I built my own desktop and bought my laptop two years ago. :]

1. No I currently do not own an ssd. I am planning to purchase one though in the near future to upgrade my laptop.

2. I am considering either Samsung, Intel or Crucial. I find reliability and performance to be the key aspects of what I am looking for in an ssd. I feel that these brands are able to offer both. The next aspect is capacity followed by price.

3. I buy a new computer every 2-3 years.

4. US resident.

1) Do you currently own an SSD? Are you planning on purchasing one or more in the near future?
I do not, and I would love one if they were affordable.
2) If you’re planning on purchasing an SSD, which brand(s) are you considering and why (price, performance, reliability, brand, etc.)?
Brand isnt something I'm worried about as much as 1) reliability and 2) performance

3) How often do you purchase a new PC (every 12 months or less, every 12-18 months, 18-24 months, 2-3 years, over 3 years)?
I mod my PC as necessary to keep it relevant, but my 3 year old computer (untouched since then) can still max pretty much everything out

1) Do you currently own an SSD? Are you planning on purchasing one or more in the near future?
I do not own one now. I am planning to purchase one in the future.

2) If you’re planning on purchasing an SSD, which brand(s) are you considering and why (price, performance, reliability, brand, etc.)?
I am watching several: Intel, Crucial, OCZ, Samsung. I trust the brands equally when it comes to performance and reliability. Price will be the deciding factor.

3) How often do you purchase a new PC (every 12 months or less, every 12-18 months, 18-24 months, 2-3 years, over 3 years)?
Once every 3 years

1) Do you currently own an SSD? Are you planning on purchasing one or more in the near future?
I currently do not own a SSD. Yes, I do plan on buying a SSD for my next PC which I plan on purchasing when Ivy Bridge is released.

2) If you’re planning on purchasing an SSD, which brand(s) are you considering and why (price, performance, reliability, brand, etc.)?
At this moment in time the two brands that caught my eye are Crucial and Samsung however, if I didn't have a limited budget, I would buy Intel without a second thought.

3) How often do you purchase a new PC (every 12 months or less, every 12-18 months, 18-24 months, 2-3 years, over 3 years)?
I usually buy a new computer every 3 years.

4) [Canadian residents] What is 125 plus 45 divided by 3 minus 13?

125 + 45 / 3 - 13 = 127

2) If you’re planning on purchasing an SSD, which brand(s) are you considering and why (price, performance, reliability, brand, etc.)?

OCZ Vertex 3 for the moment...

3) How often do you purchase a new PC (every 12 months or less, every 12-18 months, 18-24 months, 2-3 years, over 3 years)?

hover 3 years
1) No, but i do like the idea of faster data access and lowed power consumption. I will get next notebook with SSD for sure.

2) Sure, but maybe not as upgrade for current notebook. I like Intel SSDs and that could be my chose today.

3) 3 -4 years, Owned 3 notebook from. Started at collage not im studying IT at university.

4) 125 + 45 / 3 - 13 equals 127 winknudge.gif
post #600 of 635

1) No, but I would like to use one for the faster access times. I have been wanting to purchase one, but when they were first released they were very expensive and some were unreliable.

2) OCZ or Intel. Due to price I havent done as much research as I would if I were seriously considering purchasing one. The most important things to me would be #1 reliability #2 price, and #3 performance. The only reason performance is #3 is because it will already be a huge upgrade over my current HDD.

3) 2-3 years, however I have been upgrading my home built computer as needed, so not really purchasing new computers, but rather upgrades for my computer.

4) Not a Canadian resident, but if I was it would be 127.
