Updating or changing your GPU (graphic processor unit)(Video chip) that is not easily done with laptops if at all. Have you tried an external monitor......Not sure what the result was in your initial post...If the external monitor works, and the laptop doesnt, pretty much points to a faulty screen...Check on EBay for replacement LCD's for that model..As mentioned, you could try an inverter first..they are only a couple of bucks. if the inverter doesnt do it, then you have to try a new LCD..if you have the restore CDs, you could try a reinstall or try Linux Mint or any of the other free linux distros to make sure its not a driver issue before shelling out the bucks for a new screen ((
