Have Toshiba A205-S4797- Can I install a T7200 in place of the T5300?

I'm fairly decent at computer stuff, and I already have as much RAM in this thing as I can, I'd like to upgrade the processor if I can, to squeak a little more performance out of it.  I have a few questions:

 

1.  is it even possible?  I don't know if my 1.73 gz T5300 is a socket M or not and I don't really know how to find out.

2. I found a used T7200 out of a Dell Precision M65.  Will this work in my Toshiba, or are Dell processors specific to that PC?

 

 

Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Download and install CPUID CPU-Z ((http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html)) Should give you all the info you want on your current processor and more

Ok I'll do that.  Ive been researching, and it seems that even the T7600 is a socket M processor (thanks wikipedia) and has a low enough FSB that I think it will work.

From the sucessful swaps that I have seen make sure that the wattage for the replacement is the same or very slightly more than the old one..Too much diff and you will have heat issues...FSB should be the same or just slightly higher..check at Toshiba.com for any BIOS upgrades for that specific model..may need an upgrade to recognize the new processor..also, make sure the old thermal paste is removed an a new coating (follow directions) of Arctic Silver 5 is applied where necessary ( in this case, more is not good)..While there, a thorough cleaning of fan etc for dust crap buildup..

Oh yeah, if you havent already, do a google search for "Toshiba satellite A205 processor upgrade"..You will find some quesitons and answers for those who have tried this mod and may enlighten you on some issues
