It depends on the system configuration. Since this model is like a cult-type model, you can expect anything for a few 100's $ to 1000's

Ask the person to download Speccy (free) and run it, then mail you the report. This will tell you pretty much everything about the machine configuration

Thanks for the awnsers and dealing with my lack of knowledge! I asked the guy to download the program and send me the report. But in the mean time i did my research and found the lowest model m9700 was clocked at 1.8 ghz.

That is about right giving the available CPU at the time

I have an Aurora m9700 Conspiracy Blue with AMD Turion x2 64 2.4Ghz processor, 2Gb RAM, and 2 HDD's both 7200RPM, an 80Gb (O/S and apps) + 160Gb (everything else). Have MS Windows XP Media Center Edition. The unit is pristine and running perfectly, its my daughter's laptop. Being a diehard Alienware laptop guy, I had her keep this as a desktop alternative as she uses a 14" laptop which is more mobile for school and work. I am thinking of upgrading it for her to MS Win 7 Ultimate 64, which I am sure it will run without a hitch, but with larger drives installed first.

These units have been a major hit and favorite among Alienware enthusiasts and probably why in some cases maintain a decent value. She does not intend to ever sell it, she loves its performance even though technology and Windows have upgraded plenty over since its release. I always enjoy using it myself when she brings it over or when I am by her place. They are solid and run great even in comparison to today's designs. All three colors, Conspiracy Blue, Cyborg Green, and Saucer Silver look wicked. I find them selling on eBay between $350 to $700 depending on condition and added stuff. I would not go above $500 myself for one regardless of the condition and what ever added accessories the seller is giving you. I would tell you if you do find one at a price you can meet of the same 2.4Ghz like mine, maybe max out the memory and put a larger 7200RPM drive build it with Win 7, you will enjoy it, no doubt.

Of course its weight, size, and battery is a consideration if intended to travel with it, but as a rock solid design and performer of a laptop, I would not let that stand in your way.
