Hey and thanks for looking. As the title states im in need of a laptop, and this will be my first. Right now the stuff i want it to be able to do would be play a couple of games like tf2, oblivion and such, nothing like BF3 or SWTOR. Mostly other than that i browse the web and use it for simple programs. I feel like and older model top of the line model would work quite well. But im not totally sure which Brand/model to go for? Thanks for any help!

In order to find the best computer for you, it's helpful it you can answer some question. What's your budget? How big a computer are you looking for? How much battery life do you need?

My budget is probbly a couple hundered bucks. i dont really mind a small screen but lets just say 15". As for battery life, it doesnt need to be super lonh maby. couple of hours. Im usually by an outlet at my house so its not abig deciding factor.

Pretty tough to find a couple hundred bucks with a 15" screen. Considering netbooks?

There are some netbooks that perform well with gaming etc, and yes you might get one new for around couple hundreds bucks. HP Mini, Toshiba NB series, Asus eee ... take your pick

With all due respect, Q, I don't know of any netbooks that would run Team Fortress 2 and Oblivion (the games mentioned) well.

In my opinion, Dgrams, you're going to either look around Craigslist and Ebay for a used computer or you'll have to wait until you get more money. At present, anything new with decent gaming ability is around $700 minimum, from what I've seen.

Quite true, but we do have a member here who had success in tweaking a HP Mini into a gaming contender winknudge.gif

The main thing to look for is a good video card. Notebookcheck.net has a great comprehensive list of notebook video cards and what games they can play well. Based on your price range, you'll probably want something from 2-3 years ago. Just make sure you don't go too far back. Anything with a single-core processor isn't worth your time. You want a dual-core or multicore processor.
