Acer Ferrari 3000 LMi Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3)

I want to install SP3 before Microsoft pulls the plug on XP in 764 days.

Has anyone done this?

I am up to date with automatic updates on XP Pro SP2, even IE8, except for SP3.

I have read so many horror stories (none about the Ferrari 3000) and warnings about AMD CPUs (which of course powers my Ferrari) and driver issues (WLAN in particular) on the Net that I am proceeding cautiously.

Any experiences, positive or negative would be appreciated.

If you are so worried about it I recommend making a disk backup of your current hard drive and then applying SP3. All our XP systems at work are on SP3 and up to date, Intel and AMD

Thanks qhn.

It's not that I am "so worried". I don't want to spend the rest of my life rebuilding PCs.

What is more relevant to my question is whether or not "all our XP systems at work" includes an Acer notebook, specifically an AMD notebook, Ferrari or otherwise.

Regards.

You mean apart from your Mobile Athlon 64 3000+ processor, qhn? That's an entirely different ball game!

Well after nothing informative turned up on the Net, just some forum words of encouragement for which I am grateful, I decided to go ahead in the quiet of the evening using the ISO image I downloaded from M$ and burned to CD.

After 1hr and 15 minutes the update finished. That final cleanup took forever sad.gif !

On rebooting, just the Bluetooth messages displayed but that is nothing new. I get that occasionally. Something else to track down.

So far no irregularities have surfaced. Not even an exclamation mark in Device Manager smile.gif .

With any luck I won't need any Restore Points or Ghost images.

Thanks qhn and saugen48.

Over and out.

Has anyone loaded Windows 7 on the F3000? What drivers did you use? If there is a previous thread, could someone point me to it? I'll keep looking in the meantime...

I managed to load W7 on a new HDD but, needless to say, no devices apart from the screen; it's probably not optimal either with the generic driver mad.gif .

No great shakes. M$ changes for changes' sake?

No drivers on Acer's Aussie site.

Cheers

Windows 7 updates will (and should) pull down all the appropriate drivers for your devices within its database. And most of the time, these "generic" drivers are more than enough to make your (old) comp run smoothly
