VPCSB38GA

Thread Starter

I bought a new VPCSB38GA laptop since one month. after few days, it became very slow. i dont know why. may be incompatible software or program, I dont know. I formatted the hard disk without creating recovery discs. Now I want to reinstall the preinstalled software again. Not all of the soaftware are available on the sony site of this specific model. Also the brightness function keys do not work. and also the graphics key(stamina and speed ), assisst button and vaio button do not work.

I contacted the local sony service here and they said they will reinstall the orginal genuine windows and that windows will have the orginal softwares on it. I s this true?

my questions are:

1- Is there a way to make these buttons work without formatting my system again?

2- how to reinstall the original genuine windows? Di i have to go to sony service?

3- will that windows contains the vaio preinstalled software?

4- what do the recovery discs reinstall? (supplied with the laptop are recovery discs for 32bit software only) do they contain drivers and softwares or not?

5-what if the battery charges until 80% only and said "not charging"?

1.-All the drivers should be available here
2.-If you wiped your HDD, then yes.
3.-Yes
4.-RDVDs should reinstall everything, I'm not sure why they sent 32bits instead of 64bits
5.-There's a configuration where you can set to charge the battery to 100%, 80% or 50%, it is called "Battery Care Function" and it is supposed to reduce the degradation of the battery and increase the recharge cycles for the battery. I can set this option on "VAIO Control Center". I think the software is called "VAIO Care" in other models, you will need to look around.

Cheers!

Thanks Ericko very much. I appreciate your reply.

I tried to purchacse my original windows CDs so that I can reinstall it later but they said It is not permissible. They just can reinstall it on my vaio only by themselves.

But I dont understand what you mean by (to wipe my HDD).

Thanks again.

Before I answer your question, you said: "I formatted the hard disk without creating recovery discs."

What method did you use to accomplish this?

I imagined you used another Win 7 install disc (like retail or something), in case you did, most likely your recovery partition is gone or non-functional, so you are out of luck and need to send the laptop to Sony.

yes I installed another windows that was 32bit as I thought it will be faster and lighter. I dont know whether I was right or not. But actually the system speed became really faster despite I lost vaio software and also I found another problem that is not all the RAMs are usable!!

I was told that to reistall the vaio software and to use all the RAMs, I have to reinstall the orginal windows 64bit that was preinstalled on the laptop. That;s why I wanna the original windows CD from sony.

Now I would like to confirm these information from you please. and whether to reinstall the 64bit windows again or it ll slow my device again.

By the way I got the buttons work through installing a missing driver which was the SEEP driver and then the softwares needed by order from sony website of my model.

Thanks and I appreciate your support.

The reason your computer got faster is because you now have a CLEAN Windows installed. OEMs usually install lot of (useless) software to new machines, so they get a little bit slower than necessary. This extra software is known as "bloatware", you could google it and see what I mean.

A 32bits Windows limits your max RAM to a little bit less than 4GB, so yes, you need 64bits in order to fully utilize your system. It was not the 64bits Windows who was slowing your laptop, so you should be safe.

Now this is what I do:
  • Install Win7 64bits using a CLEAN install DVD
  • Install ALL drivers from Sony eSupport
  • Install ONLY NECESSARY extra software from Sony eSupport

This way I recover the HDD space used by the recovery partition (I've seen partitions up to 20GB thumbdown.gif) and I get rid of all the bloatware while still maintaining all propper functionality.

Thanks so much Ericko

I guess I will make these steps soon.

And I understood from you that I do not need the original preinstalled windows with its preinstalled software. and that all what I need is another windows 64bit.

Thanks very much again. I am feeling better now as I understood many things from you and also because I recognised I did not lose so much by formatting my HD.

Just make sure you install ALL the device drivers.

The extra software is optional.
