Asus X51RL post upgrade issues

Thread Starter

I have 2 Years old Asus X51RL laptop with celeron 2Ghz 533mhz fsb processor.

Asus provide the laptop with following processors for the same model(X51RL),

1. celeron M550/2Ghz/1mb/533Mhz processor
2. Intel T2370/1.73Ghz/1mb/533Mhz processor(Dual Core)
3. Intel T5450/1.66Ghz/2mb/677Mhz processor(Core 2 Duo)

Therefor I've installed the laptop with T5450 processor. Laptop's cmos detects processor without errors and beeps, Fsb also incresed upto 677Mhz. OS starts with out dumps, after starts it runs without blue screens, freeses, or shutdowns. Temperature of the processor was 30-60 C. I've checked this more than 24hours with out shutdowning.

But from the audio out it gives noisy sounds when play audio or movies. Some java application gui's also not display well.

I've check with re installing windows XP os, re installing and updating audio and video drivers from asus site UAA dirvers from Microsoft, and upgrade the oS to windows 7 after install new processor. But the problem is remains. I checked the bios version, it has upgraded to maximum (Version.204)

Then i repleace the t5450 processor with my old celeron processor. Then it back to normal.

Is this a issue with falty processor?, or other reason. Please help

Regards

Indika

As mentioned above, the CPU can also be faulty. One way to see if there is compatibility issue is going with the Intel T2370 (same FSB). Did you also check about the possibility of a BIOS update?

Thank you very much for the reply. I checked with asus driver download site. In the bios menu the maximum updated version is 204. In my laptop also has the same version. Can i update version 204 to version 204?.

What are the reasons to occurs this type of processor failure?. I wonder intel diagnostics also can not verify such a this type of issue.

Sure you can re-apply the BIOS, but I don't see the advantage unless the system is really bad.

Failing CPU causes are hard to pin point. It can be anything and everything that would look like software issues (BSOD, hang, freeze ...) Unless you have good tools to check them out, replacing one CPU with another "working" one is the way for normal users like me do
