rypter.

Glad to hear you got your system and I hope all is going well with it. I just came back from taking my wife and kids to Euro Disney for the week and guess what.... the GX7 came with me. I wanted to use it there, but never got around to it. But just in case, it was there. So I take it every where.

Looking forward to hearing about your experience.

Thanks.

Hypersonic shipping observation: I'm an infrequent peruser of these forums, and a semi-newbie (longtime user, but limited knowledge base) but comments above about a GX7 shipping date caught my eye. My order was placed on May 14, with a projected ship date of June 14. Still waiting. Two inquiries to "sales" resulted in only an automated "thanks for asking" type response. A third inquiry directed to "customer service" resulted in a prompt response, with a projected ship date of June 21 or 22. Since their "order status" has shown my system as "built, testing" for more than two weeks, I'm nervous, but hopeful. Hoping to be a success story rather than being forced to return to Dell. FYI.
I also appreciate Ratmyr's devotion to providing real-world info for the rest of us.

Hey ratmyr, I just wanted to make sure you knew that B or G does not affect internet speed, but only direct connection. My Wireless B router is just as fast as my old G that I returned. The only difference is in direct connection, but if you were doing that much transfering over a network I would recommend connecting it by ethernet so its 10/100mbps, or burning it onto a DVD/CD.

Glad to hear all's well on the GX-7, Ratmyr. Definitely love to see pics. Don't know that I've seen CardComp's. I'll have to look.

And rpm, if Hypersonic fails you, you don't have to settle for a Dell. I'm sure PC Torque would be more than willing to hook you up w/ a Sager equivalent

Hey 4speed, I can't see the Titanium Metallic Silver on the customize page of HyperSonic. Is this some custom color...? Also does anybody have a picture of the standard navy the stock color for GX7.

I do a lot of local gaming as well as net gaming, and I have noticed there is a definite difference between the wireless and wired gaming when I am gaming locally. This is one of the reasons I have never gone wireless (I make the family use wireless, but I hog the speed).

However, with the 108mbps, I have not noticed too much of a difference. I have been using it religiously for the last four days without a glitch (knock on wood). I am almost ready to role up the CAT-5 and stay wireless, but I have another gaming session coming up this weekend to test it out.

RPM. Sorry to hear about your problems. I had a delay as well, but not like you are having. If you don't seem to be getting a good answer from the sales folks, contact the customer service folks. I have found they are a good source of information as well, and I still keep in touch with Hypersonic about ideas and the sort. I wish you luck and hope since its been a couple days, that you have heard something positive.

Even though I am pro-Hypersonic and still loving the system, Friedtoast is correct, if HS does not deliver, PCT definitely will. If the custom paint jobs were available when I was ready to order, I may be posting in a different forum. It was a hard decision as both companies were neck and neck during my choice.

Siva. Are you talking the standard color that it comes from Clevo as? If so, just look at an 8790 from PCT. This is the standard color. HS defaults to a piercing blue, but the standard color is the same as the 8790's default color (if I am wrong, someone correct me).

And for those who appreciate my review and comments, thanks. I really want to give a users perspective on this system and help answer questions as I can. I have gotten a lot of assistance from others in the forums, and thus the reason why I don't want to be a "got my laptop now - cya" user. I want to help others as I was helped. Plus it is great talking about my toys.

Thanks.

Hi Ratmyr, When I try to customize the GX7 it gives me an option "Aviator GX7 in standard Navy Subtract $399" I thought the by default the clevo came in a black color (that is how it looks to me on PCTorque's website). If that is true then what is this "Standard Navy".

By the way I am pretty new to the board and your review about GX7 is great!! and I am most probably going to buy a GX7 or an AX7. I am still making my final decision.

I had to call Hypersonic & said they would match any color if they had a paint number so I got my 4-runner titanium metallic number sent it to them. I will be taking picture when I get it.

I believe the color "standard navy" is the same default color of the 8790. It does look black, but I believe it is a darker navy color. 8790 owners can correct me.

I have attached photos of the system in the Hypersonic gallery in the photo's area. They are a bit blurry, but I am not a pro photographer.

Enjoy!

Update on wireless usage. For two straight weeks I have been using nothing but the 108mbps wireless. I have a DWL-2100AP from DLink and both a wired and wireless connection configured for my laptop. I disabled the wired adaptor two weeks ago and decided that I would use nothing but the wireless to give it a good test.

The only issue that I see (and this could be normal) is that during the boot up of the laptop, logging in is very slow. I attribute this to the wireless for this reason. I believe it is at that moment it is establishing all the network connections and setting up DHCP and the sort. But for some reason, the wireless does not kick in right away like the wired connection does. Also, once it has booted up, I normally disable and then reenable the connection for a faster IP pull. When I am using a wired connection, the boot up is fast from the moment the password is put in.

Other than this, everything is flying. I have been doing online gaming (link is only as slow as the Internet connection) and LAN gaming. In both cases, I have not noticed a difference between the wired and wireless connection. The connection is awesome.

One note. I did change the wire on the wireless card as discussed in other reviews of the 8790. When I opened my system up, my wire was connected to the inside terminal and not the outside. When I moved it, my signal went from very good to excellent. That was good as I was getting pissed since the AP sits about three feet from the laptop and during testing, I had it sitting right on top of the laptop and still only a "very good" connection.

So I think this weekend I will be rolling up the CAT-5 and putting it into the backpack for travelling.

wireless is the future!

I'm trying to make it my future too but I'm not having much luck. I don't know if it's a hardware problem or software issue but my mx900 still is not being recognized. I've read ever manual, have ver 1.4.10 B.Tooth software- downloaded & installed ver 1.4.13. Still no luck Can someone tell me where to look in device manager to make sure the B.Tooth hardware was installed? I also re-installed BT software. I know that Fn + F12 toggles bluetooth on & off. As you can tell this is the first blue tooth device that I've bought. I using this microsoft notebook mouse til I can get the mx900 to work, other than that I'm lovin this thing!
Thanks

Ratmyr...
Thanks for taking the time to post. You are by far not a "got my lappy cya" kind of guy! I've been looking at the Sager 8790, and now I've seen the Hypersonic GX7...I must admit, I tried calling Sager to order and didn't get an answer, the phone kept ringing and ringing but no answer. I sent Sager an email stating that if this was any indication of their customer service maybe Prostar would do a better job at taking my $4,000, no one at Sager ever answered my email. I'm under the impression that Sager and Prostar are two different dealers of Clevos(their address is on the same street, they're not the same company are they?). I think Prostar is always $100 bucks cheaper than Sager. Anyhow, is the GX7 a Clevo also? It seems as though I might end up going with Hypersonic. I'll be doing some more research on HS, but I like what I see so far... Thanks again for your posts and reviews...hope things are well with you and yours.

4Speed, have you opened up the Bluetooth icon (My Bluetooth Places) that's on your desktop? Did you use the Find Bluetooth Devices in there? Also, when you click on Entire Bluetooth Neighborhood, is your MX 900 displayed in there? If you haven't done those things, I'd suggest starting there. If you have, well...

ArborBarber.

There are a lot of brands out there that began as Clevos and yes, Hypersonic is one of them (just as Sager). Someone in another forum stated they thought Hypersonic was a reseller of Sager, but I don't think this is the case. If it is, then they are hiding it pretty well. Plus, the handle all of their technical support there. If they were a reseller, I would expect them to pass you on to the Sager support.

It is good that there are many companies using the Clevo model because in some cases, there is good competition. For me, it was a close race between the 8790 and GX7, and if the custom paint was available when I was ready to order, I may be posting this review under the Sager topics. However, I am not upset with the choice I made. I still have an awesome system and one that I am thoroughly enjoying. And within three more days, it will be two months old.

4Speed. Glad to see your problem is fixed!

Re:

Ratmyr,

What backpack did you get with it? The ones I have seen say that they do not fit the 17" notebooks. The Targus Deluxe says it will fit the Apple 17", but thats still 2" shy of the GX7. Did you get the Deluxe and the GX7 fits fine?

Thanks in advance.
