So you put in the XP installation disk, starting up the comp and nothing happened? No light, no sound, no display?

Try putting in a Linux installation disk and see if any difference?

Sorry. I am having a hard time to understand the issue.

You started with installation disk ok?
You cannot access the hard drive?

the hard drive is fine  i have the original recovery disks a copy a copy of windows ex and a windows 98 boot disk nothing works the cd rom drive works fine im thinking i wiped out the drivers for the cd rom thats why nothing will load

In a clean system, the optical drive is being recognized under BIOS, you should not need any driver to make an installation disk booting up from the optical drive. Could it be failing, the drive itself?

so it recognizes the "nuke" disk when you put it in and you can boot up the comp from it now, is this correct?

As I suggested above, use a Linux LiveCD (or a GPart CD), see if you can boot it and format the drive from one of these 2 disks. If they can boot the system up I would recommend trying with some other Windows installation CD
