I have been roaming the internet for... what seems like years (because it really has been, off and on) looking for the "laptop of my dreams" - well, er, I guess they call 'em Notebooks now.
Anyway. I had 2 ideas and I am just trying to figure out if option1 exists, and if option 2 is a better idea.
Option 1. The Dream Machine.
I have been wanting a touchscreen notebook with Wacom technology for quite some time - reasons? Simple.. I want to get back into my artwork and use several programs as it is to help design my hobby work. These programs are much easier to manage with a penenabled touch screen than with a Mouse/other input, plus I want to get back into drawing/sketching and a little 3D modeling work.
Basically I'd need a more-up-to-date, Not-An-Oven, HP TX2510us
For specs basically a 1.8ghz+ Processor, at LEAST 2GB RAM
the only reason I really won't go with a TX2510 model isn't because of the "turns into an oven" problem - I know how to fix that manually - it's the lack of Ooomph in the GPU department.
Need a better pixel shader I think - honestly I wanna run Minecraft on it for "games" - other games would be on this PC - my gaming PC - but every now and then I get an itch to build in a voxel world and it would be nice to have it on-the-go. Despite being a Java game - it has rather demanding needs on the GPU - even running on my desktop here (quad core, 6gb ram, HD4890 gpu) I can run it smooth and steady - but using the Statistics I can see spikes in the GPU use that are rather high.
Other Needs would be Wacom and hopefully a 4 hour or higher battery life, and a decent Wireless connection. Won't be doing a lot of downloading or anything but will be using wireless to transfer data (pictures, drawings, 3d work) to the main PC for Serious Editing.
Anything like that out there? Remember... Wacom is a MUST, most the other stuff you might be able to sway me one way or another.
Also.. I hate blue... with a passion.. in my PC stuff.. prefer red.
Option 2. The dual screen.
Option 2 would basically just incorperate a powerful notebook with good stats with a roughly $1,000 Wacom Cintiq 12wx Screen. This would eat a second power cord (so some places I would need to bring a power strip to plug into) and would be rather cumbersome and not so "portable" as I would like it. Prefer all -in- one idea, however open to others.
the reason I mention it is because a lot of the Notebooks I see just don't see cost effective. $4,000 for a high end Notebook is too steap. I mean I spent less than $1,200 on this PC several years ago - I cant see spending more then $2,000 on a portable system - despite touch screen capable.
While not as portable, not as useful, and probably would end up with me just using the Cintiq screen at home only - I could easily see getting a Laptop to handle my desires (graphics especially) - although not Touchscreen which would be kinda of a bummer.
Looked through Ipads and all those new fangled stupid devices and none of them have the Oomph either, they are made to be mild entertainment devices and PICs - Portable Information Centers, not really a design studio or anything - and I haven't found a single one of them with Wacom Penenabled technology ( I have wacom pens and airbrushes - wacom is a MUST)
