D820 No Hibernate via Lid Closure

Hi Folks,

I have a D820, and the unit will not go into Hibernate by closing the lid.

I have gone into Control Panel / Power Options / Advanced, and clicked on the 'Hibernate' option, then apply.

Leave Control panel, and go back into it the same way.... things did not change.

It used to work, so something has changed.

Thanks,

Tim

You checked also "when lid close", correct?

Got a restore point? Verify ACPI control in computer properties (Devices Manager)?

Hi qhn,

Thanks for the reply.

Yes, I did set it for 'when close lid'.

I don't have a restore point... I've used the computer a lot since it first started acting up, and if it's a choice of going back & losing a bunch of stuff vs living with the non-standby, then I'll keep it as it is.

I checked under the device manager/computer, and there is an ACPI Multiprocessor PC.  It says that the device is working properly. Went to the driver tab & tried to update driver, but came back & said there wasn't anything 'newer'.

Don't know how to read the various states under the details (device instance id/hardware lds....).

Is there a different method to determine if it's under ACPI control (other than seeing that the driver is ok...).

I would review start up processes and services, disabling them one or a few at the time and see if the culprit can be found. If not I guess either you live with it or going for a clean re-installation

Hi qhn,

Let me run this by you (trying to figure out where the actual problem is).

Possiblly two separate issues:

1.  System is enabled to be able to go into standby, but doesn't.

2.  System cannot be configured to go into standby. (my issue).

Could a startup or other program prevent the power option from being set?

I would have thought that I could still set it, but it just wouldn't work.

Oh, also, on the 'start/shutdown' mode, I do not have a standby option.

It's looking like I'll just have to live with it until the box crashes & I have to

do a new instal! :-(

Thanks,

Tim

Take a look at communication devices (wireless, ethernet, usb port etc ..) and make sure that they allow system to turn them off to save energy

Review all apps that have influence on system going into standby (torrent is one example)
