Acer 8006lmi or Acer Ferrari 3200

I have narrowed my choice down to these 2 machines to buy one later this month 22nd I believe for the 8006.

I am tempted to go with the 8006 although a little more cash i have a funny feeling it will outperform the ferrari with Intel 2.0ghz - They both have the same graphics card so gaming performance will be similar..

But with EQII just round the corner i think i will need every bit of GPU power and CPU power I can get.

Which one would you go with....

Careful, the Ferrari AND the 8006 are both listed on the acer webiste with a 4200 rpm hard drive. But ALL of the review that praise the 8006 so highly have a model that comes with a 60gb 7200 rpm drive, yet Acer, both on the phone and on the website, don't show this as an option for the 8006.....hmmmm.

If anyone has any insight into this, let me konw. I've narrowed my search down to the Acer 8006 and the 2025, but the 4200 rpm hd's have kept me at bay.

Thanks.

First thing i intended to do when the machine arrives is put in some crucial memory and swap the HD with my 7200rpm 60gb.

I think its just down for me anyway whether the 2.0ghz dothan will outperform the 2800+ AMD.....

2.0ghz dothan vs amd64 2800+ ... u're better off with amd.

Be interesting to see any benchmarks comparing them...havent seen any yet..

To be honest i wouldnt have thought there would be much in it....

I think that on gaming the new Mobile Athlon64 2800+ will slightly outperform a Dothan 2GHz with equal video card, because the 1.7GHz Banias is as fast as the 2GHz Dothan in gaming and the Mobile Athlon64 3000+ beats both. Another cause for the F3200 will be the better price. Both will have a 4200upm HDD because Acer always equips their notebooks with slow drives. Infect of the same case it will be illogical to equipe them with different harddisks.

Any word on battery life in the new 3200's? Or just battery life in general with the new 2800+?

you may want to consider that the 8006 is 1.5 inches thick as opposed to the Ferrari which is 1.2

The only HUGE difference is the differnece in battery life. The Ferrari gets about 3 while the 8006 gets around 5.

Big difference

While the speed of a processor is important, you must also consider the bus speed. Now the Ferrari has a 1600mhz bus speed while a Pentium M has 400mhz. This will make an astounding difference on how quickly information is processed.

I'm going w/the 2025--according to Acer, it'll run about 2 hours longer. Any gain in speed would be negated--in my mind--if I tried to justify a MUCH less portable time.

Think i am leaning towards the Ferrari 3200.....

Apart from the color.....looks orrible but i guess i can live with it if performance is as good as expected.

Only thing that concerns me is FAN noise if there is one thing that will make me get rid of a laptop is too much fan noise....hence i stay away from sagers..

The slightly less battery life of the ferrari doesnt really concern me as i am never usually away from a AC socket.....or aircraft charger....think il stick with performance over battery life (and light weight).

Any notebook attracts thieves, high-end or otherwise. Something tells me a thief won't sit down at your computer and check Device Manager to figure out if he wants it or not.

He was refering to the bright color that stands out, not the performance

I'm trying to make the same decision right now. Fearri 3200 or 8006. Since they are based on the same design, would it be possible to put the 12 cell battery from an 8006 in place of the 8 cell in the 3200? Also, does anyone know if it's possible to overclock the 3200? Thanks.

dude your post alludes to a theif not caring about components

obviously a theif MIGHT take any laptop.. but if he sees ferrari he knows there's a okay market for hte laptop comapred to some compal laptop he nver heard of and the people buying at the back of the truck wouldn't have heard of either
