Black screen help.

Hi guys, new to the site. Wondering if someone can help me out with a problem. I picked up a hp g60-519wm at a yardsale for $20 but the screen is real dim, you can see that the display is working with a flashlight. I've already put a new inverter, new video cable, I took the display out of my compaq to see if maybe it was the backlights before I ordered a new one but that didnt work. I even tore the motherboard out and did the heating of the vga chip trick. Nothing. Im at a lost, any help would be great.

Thanks,

   Jeff

Have not been able to try that yet but the display is working. I can navigate windows with a flashlight. I just have no backlighting.

Well I would say that you'll need another LCD, giving the fact that you already replaced other obvious parts like inverter, back light and cable

I took the LCD out of my working Compaq and had the same results

Try with an external monitor when you can. In the mean time check out also the FN combo key that control the display brightness

hooked it up to an external, works fine so i don't think it's the chip. I'm at a lost, don't know what else to do. I've tried the two video cables, two lcds and three inverters.

I was just reading about baking the mother board. Is this something I should try? How would I go about doing this? What temps? How long?

Is the backlight created by a CFL tube - it might be burned.

Really sounds like an inverter problem to me..they are really cheap and mostly easy to replace..go there before trying anything too extreme

The whole board is dodgy. Baking won't help

I just sent an email to try and exchange the inverter for another one. This will be #4 I think

Hope it pans out..Anytime I have seen an issue with the lcd screen remaining black and being able to see what is on the screen with the aid of a flashlight, has always meant an inverter problem..
