1) Have done both, but in recent years I have purchased name brand hardware and then customized it to suit my needs.

2) I replace my personal PC equipment on approximately a 3-4 year cycle.

3) An SSD as drive C: is imperative these days. I just bought an HP Pavilion (i7) and added an SSD as drive C: and moved the oem drive to D: Works splendidly.

My 1TB 7500rpm Hitachi needs an upgrade in a big way, since it happens to be the slowest piece of hardware in my system...please, please,  please...lemme win one! =)

1) a - I prefer to roll my own

2) b - I change or upgrade every 12-18 months

3) a - SSD's are extremely important to system performance. Quick boot times, quick file access and load times - magnetic, mechanical media is one of the last performance bottlenecks.

4) Not Canadian, but I hear they're very nice people :-)

I used to buy branded, but building your own is cheaper and this way you get what you want.

c) 18 months – 2 years
Gotta keep up with the times.

I've been using an SSD exclusively for a couple years. There's no going back for me. Unfortunately the price per GB is just so pricey.

So, Here are my answers:
1) Do you prefer to build your own PC’s or buy a branded system?
a) Prefer to build my own

2) How often do you replace or upgrade your PC?
b) 12 – 18 months
(But it takes 3-4 years for the whole system to get upgraded, as I replace or upgrade specific parts when I need them).
3) How important do you feel an SSD is to system performance?
b) Pretty important
It will help me quiet a bit, especially in startup.

1) Do you prefer to build your own PC’s or buy a branded system? a) Prefer to build my own...

Always have preferred to build my own as it gives me the greatest flexibility in upgrades and choice of quality parts. Another benefit leads me to answer the next question...

2) How often do you replace or upgrade your PC?
a) Every year
b) 12 – 18 months
c) 18 months – 2 years
d) 2 – 3 years
e) 3 years or longer

It is kind of difficult to answer this one as I like to choose main-boards with the greatest flexibility for upgrades. If I cannot afford the better quality part I want to upgrade in the future also giving me the chance to purchase at a lower price after they have been on the market a while. I have had PC's last me over 5 years! My upgrades can occur at anytime in the life of the PC so my real answer is not offered in the question. f) All of the above :-)

3) How important do you feel an SSD is to system performance? a) Extremely important...

It sure would be nice to win this drive as I am preparing to build my latest and greatest system and the SSD would be awesome to include right off the bat.

1) Do you prefer to build your own PC’s or buy a branded system?
a) Prefer to build my own: It's usually cheaper, it allows me to customize the hardware to my specific usage, and it gives me a chance to make it unique visually. It's also a very fun task.

2) How often do you replace or upgrade your PC?
e) 3 years or longer: It has been about 6-7 years since my last upgrade. Before that our family upgraded every 3 days. This is still the first computer I've had to myself which I assembled. =)

3) How important do you feel an SSD is to system performance?
b) Pretty important: This is a guess due to research on them. I've never actually had the chance to experience one's use.

Many thanks! =)
