Aspire 5750Z - Weird looking USB Port

Thread Starter

Hi,

I recently purchased an Acer Aspire 5750Z and I have a question about how one of the USB Ports looks. On the right hand side of the laptop, the USB port to the right looks completely different than the other 2 USB ports on the laptop. When looking straight in to the port, the front of the USB connector has 4 small holes whereas the others ports are just perfectly flat and no holes are visible.

Please see the attached image to match my description.

I would greatly appreciate it if anyone could explain to me why this USB port looks different than the others.

Many thanks

What does your user manual say about it

The manual seems to suggest it's a USB 3.0 Port but I have never seen a USB 3 Port look like that before.

Hmm, the front of those USB Ports are flat though whereas mine has the 4 holes.

Thanks - I think the thing that concerns me the most is how the actual port looks though. I have never seen one that looks like mine before...

Thanks

USB 3 is backwards compatible either way. The port works and functions as any other USB port should do, as said though I'm just interested in why it actually does look different.

Thanks

Thanks for that mate - It does look very similar to that port but I powered the laptop down and plugged my phone into it however it didn't charge or anything.

So I don't think the port is usb 3.0 afterall...

If the manual says its a usb3 port then I would suggest thats what it is..as to why it looks different from other usb3 ports, you would have to go to the manufacturer for that one

USB 3.0 does not mean it can charge when system is off.

I was referring to it being a 'charge n play' port or whatever it's called.

I still haven't been able to find out why it looks so different than the other USB ports on my laptop.
