Samsung N145 Connect to HD TV

Hi

 

I have a Samsung N145 notebook and wish to connect it to my HD TV. the notebook has no HDMI port. Only a VGA Analogue Video port. (TV output).

 

My HD TV has an HDMI, VGA and Scart socket. Could someone please advice what I need to connect notebook to TV. Not sure if it is just a cable or whether I need a converter also.

If the tv has the vga input, I don't see any issues in connecting the Samsung N145 to the tv and using it as a 2nd display. Just hook it up and you should be able to use one of the FN keys combo to activate it

Thanks. What cable do I need? A VGA to VGA cable? Will this allow both picture AND sound to go through TV? I need soemthing that will allow both the sound and picture to go through TV similar to the way I can hook up my other laptop via an HDMI cable.

VGA to VGA is for picture only. You would need another 3.5mm sound cable from the notebook to the audio in of the tv

Thanks for your reply. Appologies for my lack of expertise but what type of 3.5mm sound cable do I need as not sure which hole in the TV could be the audio in if it has one?

 

I noticed there are quite a few with different ends for the TV. My TV has a SPDIF (Coaz.OUT), a yellow thing called a SIDEAV and a hole for headphones. All look like they could accommodate a 3.5mm to 3.5mm sound cable. (They have a hole which would accommodate the type of plug you get on the end of headphones - 3.5mm?).

 

From the sounds of it do I need a 3.5mm to 3.5mm sound cable then? Just want to make 100% sure before I buy
