Alienware Discontinues m11x

If you ventured to Alienware.com this morning, you might have noticed the m11x is no longer listed on the site. That's because Alienware refreshed M14x, M17x and M18x but decided to remove the m11x due to demand. I guess gamers still need that extra couple of inches of keyboard space and screen size; although I do feel the m11x was a great LAN notebook. I was able to play Left 4 Dead 2 for 2 straight hours on battery at 60 FPS on it.

The new line of M notebooks will have a graphic upgrade to NVIDIA's 600 series, but no new CPU options. This is a weird time to buy a notebook with Intel's Ivy Bridge on the horizon. It's hard to justify the extra cost now when Ivy Bridge has a lot of promise with battery life. If you're thinking about buying a new gaming notebook, I'd wait until June.

Too bad. This M11X can be a solid model with years to come, and with just some CPU/GPU upgrade. Dell blew another one here winknudge.gif

cheers ...

I can't believe that I'm saying this but I feel that their design is getting rather stale. It's stayed the same now for years, and it seems as though Dell is losing interest in the market. Probably because of all the hype on Ultrabooks lately.

I don't think it's anyone's fault so much as it was a cool concept, that had it's moment in time in the technology cycle, but that moment has passed. When it came out, there was almost nothing smaller than a 15" gamer, so they were able to capitalize on an untapped market for a while. but that market clearly has a finite demand level and it dried up. When it came out, it seemed like exactly what I would want, but now, just a couple years later, I'd probably prefer an Ipad for ultimate portability, and a new 17" laptop for home use and dedicated travel...

Agreed with Steve though, that there's really no value in springing for a laptop right now with IvyBridge just around the corner...

That sucks, I always wanted one, though it probably would be a waste of money to some extent. ;P

It's funny you say that because I've always wanted one too but I never got around to getting one because I don't game away from home anymore like I used to. The pains of growing up.
