Replacing a Hitachi HDD in ASUS M50Vn

Hi

A Hitachi 500Gb HDD model 5K500 has died in my ASUS M50Vn The replacement drive model now comes with a 'B' at the end ( Hitachi 5K500 B ). Anyone know if this drive is 100% compatible with the older model as a replacement drive or might I encounter problems?

Thanks.

No, you should not have to do anything. I should have said a better drive model so not to be confusing

Ah OK the drives own firmware - sorry had visions of needing to reconfigure the computer for it to be recognised. Sounds like you are pretty certain it will just work.

Thanks for the links - The compatibility guide at:

http://www.hitachigst.com/tech/techlib.nsf/techdocs/FB02F2D8C8D9A8C7882576DD00608C4B/$file/TS5K500.B_v1_CompatGuide.pdf

does not mention the ASUS M50Vn or any other ASUS for that matter.

1. It a 2008 document
2. It shows being compatible with Intel ICH9 host controller chipset to which your notebook model uses

Thanks I will order the drive.

I assume all I need to do is put an NTFS partition or two in the drive and then run the ASUS supplied rescue disc to re-install the O/S before running the drivers disk? Any hints appreciated!

Wondering why you are reinstalling OS...

Dead HDD = no more data of any kind O/S or otherwise and I am assuming a new Hitachi drive does not come with as O/S pre-installed.

My mistake, for whatever reason, I was thinking Optical drive....sorry for the stupid question...lol
