Multi channel ram

Thread Starter

I am speccing out laptops right now hoping to buy a new light gaming laptop before diablo iii hits :) all the laptops I am looking at right now are ivy bridge.

In the memory options, sometimes I see choices for ram that are explicitly labeled "dual channel". Sitting right next to them will be multiple ram choices like 2x4GB and it will not say "dual channel".

Are there differences in the memory itself? I mean, if I buy multiple memory sticks that are the same, are they automatically dual channel or not? Should I not buy a laptop that doesn't explicitly say its memory is dual channel, if that is important to me?

thanks in advance!

It is not so much about dual channel memory but if the motherboard is capable of supporting dual-channel memory handling. One can presume if the system says it requires dual-channel memory than it can supports dual-channel memory handling.

cheers ...
