HP dv6700 not running on AC power

Hello guys,

I have an HP dv6700. It's battery doesn't last for too long now and I has ordered a new or which would arrive soon. The problem with my laptop is that it's not running on AC power and I am unable to use te laptop completely. I have two adapters and both work fine it means it's not an adapteissuers. Intact, the blue light where the adapter's pin goes in the power jack does come on giving an indication that adapters are fine and possibly the power jack too. what doesn't come on is the LED on the laptop's front for AC power. When I plug in there is no LED light indicating that the laptop is on AC Power.
What could have happened is that when the laptop stopped working on AC, the adapter's wire out of adapter Box into the laptop near the pin was worn out and the two wires shorted out( I could hear the sound). So, I am guessing that short circuit current was fed to te laptop because te pin was still connected to the laptop.
I have multimemeters. So, I will be able to run a few tests if someone knows what to do.
Please help me what I diagnostic tests I should run. In the worst case I think motherboard will need to be replaced.

Thank you

Coincidence? We have a thread here in the section not so far back about a "failing" diode or something similar to it. Browse the section for it Saran
