Acer Iconia 6120 Dual-Screen Touch Notebook and Windows 8

Thread Starter

Hello there, Acer community!  I was very happy to stumble along this forum after a ton of web searches.  If this has already been answered somewhere else, then please forgive me, but here it goes...

I have a new Acer Iconia 6120.  I bought this so that I couod load Windows 8 Consumer Preview, and I have the 64-bit ISO burned to a bootable DVD.

To make matters simple, since the Iconia is a very accessible tool-free case, I just threw in a new blank hard drive, then I loaded Windows.  I even registered each touch screen the way you are supposed to, with a USB keyboard attached, and everything.

However, beyond that I was a bit lost.  I was only able to get the Windows 8 virtual keyboard to show up in the upper display, which the lower display would only show the Windows Desktop, but I could not do other things on it, like drag windows for an extended desktop or launch other apps, etc.

Does anyone by chance happen to know of a place where I can find step by step correct setup instructions for Windows 8 on the Iconia 6120?  I want to make sure that I have everything configured correctly, and also I want to get the most functionality out of it.  There are some awesome videos on Youtube, however I did not get quite the same results....

Any information is greatly appreciated more than you know.  Thanks so much, everyone!  Have a great night,

Mike

Isn't this the same "bug" reported since the biginning of Windows 8 on this model? I haven't read anything different since then. Hopefully you can share your tweakings with us?

I have found from ukrainean site the recovery image 16GB (PQSERVICE1, 2,3 ,4,5). I installed those 5 archive with an external DVD. I boot from this external DVD with Acronis and I recovered all, as was installed from factory(Win 7 Home Premium 64 bit). Is the russian version but with Vistlizator and english language pack I managed to have a new installation on my Acer Iconia because i bought this laptop with Windows 7 ultimate and the ring and other application does not working.

Cool sharing smile.gifheadbang.gif

What are the issues with Acer Ring installation? Error codes and messages, if any?

I get an incompatibility message. I have tried all the compatibility options, run as administrator,  but with no luck. Maybe Acer will release some win 8 drivers in the (near) future.

I wonder if peforming a Windows 8 migration (in place update over Windows 7) would save the settings

You people gonna learn how to behave in a civilized manner. You already have enough platform out there to take pot shot to each others. LEAVE NBF out of this or I am gonna start digging up out the ban hammer.

@Iman Cobra ... last friendly warning ... you might feel crossed about others sharing information, but that's the name of the game for each and every software and hardware findings. But getting upset over it won't help you much. The net can always find out what/who is good and what/who is not.

i managed to get windows 8 up and running on my machine with just the software CD that came with it. Although i am still experiencing problems with the ghost touches, With the risk of starting another riot... i dare ask... any more updates on the elusive "second and final" soluiton? has anybody tested it out yet?
