Backlight or Inverter issue?

Im leaning towards backlight.. but tell me what you all think.

was given an HP 8510p. The HP splash screen comes on, goes to BIOS, will display for a minute or two max. Display starts a nice crimson red, then goes to pinkish, then backlight goes out completely.

In my experience, this means backlight failing, failing, gone. LCD is not cracked. External display works 100% perfect. I have no extra LCDs to check with, tossed my one cracked one from a G60 laptop, never thought id use it for anything. DOH!

I only ask because ive read of more inverter issues than backlight, but ive personally SEEN more backlight than inverter.

Also, i am electrically and technically very capable- excellent soldering skills, etc. Any words of advice on replacing a $10 CCFL myself rather than the entire LCD? Is it advised if I am capable? Worst case im out the $10 CCFL and have to buy a new LCD anyways.

Thanks for the help!

As you mentioned it certainly is cheaper buy a replacement backlight and inverter than a whole LCD...and you are not out that much if thats not it,,,
