1. Do you currently own an SSD and are you planning on purchasing one in the near future? If so, which brands are you considering (Intel, OCZ, Crucial, Kingston, Patriot Memory, Samsung, or other)?

I own a 60GB Kingston bought in May 2011.

2. What is the most important consideration you make when you purchase an SSD (price, performance, brand, other)?

Price is most important but performance is 2nd.

3. How often do you purchase a new PC (less than a 1 year, 1-2 years, 2-3 years, over 3 years)?

Usually every 2 years.

4. Do you prefer to build your own PC or buy a branded system (Build your own or Buy a branded system)?

For laptops I buy a branded system, usually Dell, but for desktop I build them. I prefer to build computers.

5. How important do you feel an SSD is to system performance? (extremely important, pretty important, Not very important, no impact on performance)

Performance is more important if the SSD is the only drive. I use a SSD/HDD combo so only the OS in on the SSD.

1) I do not currently own SSD. Am considering for my next PC build. Have not yet narrowed vendors.
2) Considerations: Price and performance yes, but also long term reliability of the data and how the overall unit performs over time.
3) New system about 3 year cycle.
4) Up to now, I have always bought a major brand pre-built PC (Dell, Apple, Sony, etc). But for my next PC (this year) I am planning to build / assemble from parts myself.
5) Based on the articles I have read, I am thinking that an SSD for the boot up volume (OS and major applications) could be rather important for getting the best performance.
6) U.S. based. but I think the math still works the same .... Assuming a regular word sequential operation:
110+15 = 125, /5 = 25, -4 = 21.
But if you intend it to be overly complicated with multiplication and division taking precedence over additive, then it would be
110 + (15/5) - 4 = 110 + 3 - 4 = 109. wink.giflaughing.gif

1. Own a variety of SSD's, namely Intel's original X-25's, including 1 X25-E and now using X-25M 2ndGen 160GB.

2. Most important consideration: Performance/Reliability.

3. Buy PCs at least once a year.

4. Always buy branded PCs, replacing hard drives with SSD's that perform the best.

5. SSDs are very important to system performance.

2. Looking for performance improvement, mac lion has slowed systems down considerably

3. Purchase or upgrade every 2 years

1. I currently boot from an OCZ 60 gig Solid 3 SSD.

2. The most important considerations in buying an SSD are price / gigabyte and reliability.

3. I purchase a new PC about every 3 years.

4. I haven't bought a branded PC in over a decade. My computer shop builds PC's to my specs.

5. An SSD is very important to system performance, but the SSD I buy must also be reliable.

Thanks,
Gerry

1. I have an Intel 520, if I were in the market for another I'd probably buy another Intel.
2. Reliability. It has to be absolutely reliable so I can trust that my data is intact.
3. Over 3 years. Technology is fairly mature.
4. I prefer to buy. I used to build.
5. I like SSD for the performance enhancement, and how it helps make the system quieter.
1. I do not own a SSD at this time.
2. I would consider performance to be most important.
3. I usually wait more than three years.

1. I Don't yet own one Considering OCZ and Intel.

What is the most important consideration you make when you purchase an SSD (price, performance, brand, other)?
2. The blend of price for performance And Trusted brand.

How often do you purchase a new PC (less than a 1 year, 1-2 years, 2-3 years, over 3 years)?
3. Rarely if ever purchase a complete build PC - but continually upgrading components and processor.

Do you prefer to build your own PC or buy a branded system (Build your own or Buy a branded system)?
4.See #3 above - i do purchase notebooks about every 5-7 years - Always Lenovo "T" series.

How important do you feel an SSD is to system performance? (extremely important, pretty important, Not very important, no impact on performance
5. Very important for the system drive and currently less so for ancillary storage drives - this should change as SSD's grow in size and drop in price.

6.I'm an American resident - I don't know the metric system yet wink.gif

1. Do you currently own an SSD and are you planning on purchasing one in the near future? If so, which brands are you considering (Intel, OCZ, Crucial, Kingston, Patriot Memory, Samsung, or other)?
I own 3: two intels and one ocz. I am considering another purchase as well. It will likely be an Intel or Crucial SSD.

2. What is the most important consideration you make when you purchase an SSD (price, performance, brand, other)?
Stability and reliability, then speed.

3. How often do you purchase a new PC (less than a 1 year, 1-2 years, 2-3 years, over 3 years)?
Once every couple years I upgrade parts or whole systems, depending on the architecture.

4. Do you prefer to build your own PC or buy a branded system (Build your own or Buy a branded system)?
Build my own desktops and servers, buy laptops.

5. How important do you feel an SSD is to system performance? (extremely important, pretty important, Not very important, no impact on performance)
SSDs are just as important as processor and RAM. In some ways, due to the relative stagnation of platter drive performance over the last decade, an argument could easily be made that SSD performance (vs platter drive) has an even greater impact on system performance than most CPU upgrades.

6. [Canadian residents only] What is 110 plus 15 divided by 5 minus 4?
Not Canadian. Yet.

1. Do you currently own an SSD and are you planning on purchasing one in the near future? If so, which brands are you considering (Intel, OCZ, Crucial, Kingston, Patriot Memory, Samsung, or other)?

Yes; 256GB Crucial M4. Currently looking at Crucial or Intel because my current 256 is at/near capacity

2. What is the most important consideration you make when you purchase an SSD (price, performance, brand, other)?

Brand followed by Performance. I tend to weight these at 50/50

3. How often do you purchase a new PC (less than a 1 year, 1-2 years, 2-3 years, over 3 years)?

2 to 3 years - I consider it a personal fail if I cannot keep a system compliant for three years

4. Do you prefer to build your own PC or buy a branded system (Build your own or Buy a branded system)?

[/B]Prefer to build gaming desktop and purchase gaming laptops[/B]

5. How important do you feel an SSD is to system performance? (Extremely important, pretty important, Not very important, no impact on performance)

SSD is the most important advancement since the advent of dedicated Graphics IMHO
