1. Do you currently own a SSD and are you planning on purchasing one in the near future? If so, which brands are you considering (Intel, OCZ, Crucial, Kingston, Patriot Memory, Samsung, or other)?
No, I currently don't own a SSD. I have considered purchasing one of: Samsung 830, Crucial m4 and OCZ Vertex 4. Intel has my attention as well, but pricing has put me off.

2. What is the most important consideration you make when you purchase an SSD (price, performance, brand, other)?
Reliability, price per performance, then other things such as brand, warranty and support should it ever be needed.

3. How often do you purchase a new PC (less than a 1 year, 1-2 years, 2-3 years, over 3 years)?
I usually build and upgrade over time however I would say that a computer should last at least 3 years. My current computer has lasted me just over 3 years and its time to have it replaced.

4. Do you prefer to build your own PC or buy a branded system (Build your own or Buy a branded system)?
Build my own.

5. How important do you feel an SSD is to system performance? (extremely important, pretty important, Not very important, no impact on performance)
Pretty important. A computer works fine for most users without a SSD; the responsiveness and speed just isn't the same though.

6. [Canadian residents only] What is 110 plus 15 divided by 5 minus 4?
110 + 15 / 5 - 4 = x
110 + 3 - 4 = x
x = 109

1-2 years

1. Do you currently own an SSD and are you planning on purchasing one in the near future? If so, which brands are you considering (Intel, OCZ, Crucial, Kingston, Patriot Memory, Samsung, or other)?

Yes-- I own one 30GB kingston, which is *still* idling in a HTPC project on hold.  I'm not planning on purchasing any others until price/GB comes down even farther.

2. What is the most important consideration you make when you purchase an SSD (price, performance, brand, other)?

While I'm not shopping for any SSDs at the moment, my main concerns are (a) reliability, (b) price/GB, (c) speed-- in that order.

3. How often do you purchase a new PC (less than a 1 year, 1-2 years, 2-3 years, over 3 years)?
Between desktops and laptops, I prob buy parts equivalent to a desktop every 12-18 months, but I only buy a "whole" computer (i.e. off-the-shelf laptop) every 2-3 years.

4. Do you prefer to build your own PC or buy a branded system (Build your own or Buy a branded system)?
I build desktops and buy branded  laptops.

5. How important do you feel an SSD is to system performance? (extremely important, pretty important, Not very important, no impact on performance)
Pretty important, but nothing I can't live live without.  Perhaps, "pretty beneficial" would be more accurate.

6. [Canadian residents only] What is 110 plus 15 divided by 5 minus 4?
I'm forbidding from doing Canadian maths because I live too far south?  Well, put "109" in your pipe and smoke it!  (Disregarding order of operations and proceeding from Left to Right, you would be smoking "twenty-one," instead.  Why no order of operations or parens?)

thanks!

1. I do not currently own a SSD. I would consider buying Intel, OCZ or Kingston.

2. Reliability would have to be the number one consideration in my decision.

3. I build my own computers. My current computer was built over 3 years ago, but is continually updated.

4. I prefer to build my own to get it exactly to my specifications.

5. I believe that next to RAM, SSD is the next most important in computer speed.

Thanks.

Not Canadian.

1. Crucial 128gb. Yes, I'd like to purchase another this year.

2. Most important consideration is performance/stability.

3. I purchase a new computer about once per year.

4. I have been buying new computers the last several years (laptops) as those are harder to build yourself. Before that I built my own desktops for 8 years.

5. I think SSD performance is pretty important, especially in a laptop.

6. Go USA!

Reliability, reliability, reliability. Did I mention reliability!

3. How often do you purchase a new PC (less than a 1 year, 1-2 years, 2-3 years, over 3 years)?
Every 3 years or so.

5. How important do you feel an SSD is to system performance? (extremely important, pretty important, Not very important, no impact on performance)
SSD makes the biggest change to any pc. i would choose this over a faster cpu if money was limited.

6. [Canadian residents only] What is 110 plus 15 divided by 5 minus 4?
109, again using BODMAS.

1. Do you currently own an SSD and are you planning on purchasing one in the near future? If so, which brands are you considering (Intel, OCZ, Crucial, Kingston, Patriot Memory, Samsung, or other)? I don't currently own an SSD but I would like to get one in the near future (when prices go down). From what I've seen, I would be considering anything with the SandForce chipset.

2. What is the most important consideration you make when you purchase an SSD (price, performance, brand, other)? Price, chipset, brand.

3. How often do you purchase a new PC (less than a 1 year, 1-2 years, 2-3 years, over 3 years)? Almost every 3 years.

4. Do you prefer to build your own PC or buy a branded system (Build your own or Buy a branded system)? I build my own.

5. How important do you feel an SSD is to system performance? (extremely important, pretty important, Not very important, no impact on performance) Based on recent tests, extremely important.

6. [Canadian residents only] What is 110 plus 15 divided by 5 minus 4? If the question is in BEDMAS the answer is 109. If the question is in order of operations the answer is 21.

Written notation for math is not easy to read. Please use proper notation in the future.

Also, why do only Canadians have to answer that question?

1. Do you currently own an SSD and are you planning on purchasing one in the near future? If so, which brands are you considering (Intel, OCZ, Crucial, Kingston, Patriot Memory, Samsung, or other)?

Yes, own Vertex2, M4, intel330.... need more, can't stand to run on spindle drives anymore!

2. What is the most important consideration you make when you purchase an SSD (price, performance, brand, other)?

MOST important has to be reliability.. followed closely by price

3. How often do you purchase a new PC (less than a 1 year, 1-2 years, 2-3 years, over 3 years)?

1-2 years in the past.  May slow down as most are dual or quad core now.

4. Do you prefer to build your own PC or buy a branded system (Build your own or Buy a branded system)?

Generally build desktops, prefer IBM/Lenovo laptops

5. How important do you feel an SSD is to system performance? (extremely important, pretty important, Not very important, no impact on performance)

Hmm, don't you have anything stronger than "extremely important"??? guess I'll go with that.

6. [Canadian residents only] What is 110 plus 15 divided by 5 minus 4?

Sadly I've only visited Canada twice, once for the Montreal Expo and once for Quebec Winter Carnival.  oops, may have dated self there.  110+(15/5)-4 is 109 in the USA, however.

Yes, I own an older Intel unit. Yes, I plan on purchasing one in the future. I am considering Intel, Crucual and OCZ primarily.
2. What is the most important consideration you make when you purchase an SSD (price, performance, brand, other)?
Price, Performance, Support (Firmware support, etc).
3. How often do you purchase a new PC (less than a 1 year, 1-2 years, 2-3 years, over 3 years)?
Over 3 years. It's been a while, actually. I am piecing together my new gaming box. Being out of the game for way too long.
4. Do you prefer to build your own PC or buy a branded system (Build your own or Buy a branded system)?
Build my own, hands down. That way I can pick my components, take my time, route the cabling my way... it's like art for me.

Important enough to give up something else to have an SSD!

Brian
