My Acer Aspire 7720 has been in use for 4 years. But since I closed it the last time, it won't turn on again.
When I push the power button, the following happens: The power light turns on, I hear the cd/dvd drive being accessed and the fan (there is only one) spins for 3-5 seconds before turning off again... and that's all (the power light stays on). The screen stays completely black the whole time.
So far, I have dusted the cooling system, reseated the RAM (also switching between banks and slots) and reseated the hard drive as well. I wanted to reset the bios but I can't see any jumpers and the CMOS battery is soldered on at its contacts (and I neither have a soldering gun, nor the confidence to do it myself).
Would anyone have an idea what to do or where the focus of the problem might be?
And how important does resetting the bios seem?
PS: Since the problem occurs in the same manner, whether I plug it in or use the battery, I don't really suspect the power supply to be faulty - would you agree?
