Battery stops charging randomly.

When im charging my notebook battery (Acer 7750G), it randomly stops charging and the power light and battery light start blinking. Nothing blinks on the charger itself. When i wiggle the ac-adapter plug nothing happens, doesnt stop charging. It can run on the battery without problems even when running crysis 2.

Thanks in advance. smile.gif

PS. The charger is the original one that came with the notebook.

When you mentioned "stop charging" randomly, did it come back? Randomly also?

I would start first with another power adapter in your case

Yes, every single time i connect the charger to my notebook it stops charging randomly (10-20 minutes after i connected the charger, it comes back everytime. When i have just the charger plugged in it the notebook just shuts down.

PS. The notebook never did this before, and it seems to stop charging more often when im playing games.

Hi all,

i found a solution for the flashing power light problems. Its a bit late for this thread, but it seems that alot of people have this problem so i post it here anyway.

My Acer 7750G had exactly the same charging problems, especially when playing games. It first occured after a year and became more frequent over time, until i coudn't even watch youtube videos.

Since my 2 year warranty is gone I opened my notebook myself and discovered that the power jack cable(see first pic) looked strange. The cable near the connector to the mainboard isn't enough insulated and leakage appears under full power (current flows between the cables). Then the mainboard doesn't get enough power anymore and changes into this flashing state without charging further. The leakage causes alot of heat which melts and destroyes the insulation further (visible: the red cable turned brown). So the problem intensifies over time.

thanks to my tutor who gave me this explanation wink.gif

The solution:

I just replaced the power jack cable with a new one(about £8). My notebook works fine again, already tested it by playing a few hours without any problem. smile.gif

Important: there are alot of different types of power jack cables and each model, might have a different one so I can't suggest any. Even I bought a wrong cable which has a only slighly different connector. So if you do it yourself take a close look on your cable.

I study Electric Power Engineering and have some experience with Electronics. If you don't have any, I recommend to use a computer repair service!

If you do it yourself you probably loose your warranty by opening the notebook and risk to destroy other components if not careful.

Its on your on risk!!!

the power jack cable

If alot of people want to do it themself, I might write guide to how to open the notebook.

Hope this solution helps other aswell :)

Hey there,

got the same problem with my acer 7750g

@ n0teb00k: Is the problem still solved?

And where did you get that cable or what's the exact cable name you searched for?

If that's the long-lasting solution I would really like to try it, too!

greetings

Mikel

Does anybody with the same problem have checked their acer notebooks by now?

If you did so, was it the same problem (destroyed power jack cable) ?

@ N0teb00k: It would be fantastic to have a guide for this since opening the notebook seemed to be more difficult than expected...

we have featured (stickies) threads in the section as how to disassemble different ACER notebooks. Have you looked into them yet? smile.gif

and greetings here from HH

Okay guys, I changed my power jack cable of my acer 7750g a few days ago. The old one surprisingly wasn't burned, charred, brown ... but I still substituted it by the new calbe I bought. Opening and assembling the notebook was quite confusing but after all it's working for me by now. I am able to play games again with my charging cable plugged in without any problems.

I'm very happy that it works after just buying and inserting one cable and without using my guarantee and waiting for weeks to get my notebook back.

If problems appear in the future I will come back here and comment immediately.

Thank you guys for help and have a good time! :)

I'm having the same problem.  Where are the stickies you referred to? They aren't in this section and I haven't found them.

Thanks!
