I have problem with audio jack in my XPS M1710.The speakers works properly but when I plug my headphones the sound is only played in left speaker. When I unplug and plug again the jack connector the sound is in both speakers for a particular time.I think that the jack socket on motherboard is broken and I don`t know where can I buy another one which will be compatible with my broken one.The notebook is out of warranty. Here is the photo of this socket.

Hi ciagus
If you need to replace the mother board you can contact Dell Out of Warranty Repair and Spares support on : 1-800-288-4410.
However I would suggest you to check if the same headphones work on a different system. Try reinstalling the audio drivers using this link:
http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19
Enter the service tag and operating system to narrow down the search for correct audio drivers.
Kindly reply with the results.

Since I bought this notebook(one year ago) I have the problem with headphones.I have also an old IBM T23 notebook and the headphones works correctly with it.I thought that the headphones are broken but the problem is only on my Dell XPS.I will try to reinstall audio drivers but I am at last sure that the audio socket on the motherboard is broken.I didn`t find such socket on the Tyco online catalogue.
