Hello sarathvincent,

My name is Pradeep and I work for the Social Media and Community Team at Dell. Please follow the below mentioned steps to terminate the slow performance:

1.Update your antivirus software, and run a full scan. Remove all viruses from your computer and restart.
2.Clear up some space on the hard drive. To do this, you need to right click on “My Computer,” then click on Disk Cleanup and check every box available and click “clean my computer”.
3.Uninstall useless or programs that you rarely use. Follow the “Start Menu” to “Settings” and then to “Control Panel”. From this screen click on “Add/Remove Programs” and uninstall programs that are no longer needed. Then double click on “My Documents”, which will be on your desktop screen, and just remove anything that you know for sure you “created” and just delete them; you can also delete pictures that you have on the computer. Remember to empty your Recycle Bin after deleting these files because they are still on the hard drive and taking up space; just right click the icon and navigate to “Empty Bin.”
4.If this didn't work check if you have enough RAM (Random Access Memory). These are the memory chips. If there are not enough of them the computer will use your hard disk to store intermediate results, but this is a much slower process. The computer then appears always busy to write and read things from your hard disk. You can hear it, and the led on the computer itself will light up.
Right click on the 'my computer' icon, then select properties, then read what is said on the 'General' tab. For Windows XP it should be 256 MB or more. If it is less then 1024 MB then it might be the problem.
If RAM is the real problem, your computer will be slow whenever you start a new application. If your computer is only slow when you turn on your computer or reboot, it is more likely that it is some other problem.
Before you rush out to get some additional RAM in a computer shop, make sure you know exactly what type fits in with your computer, and convince yourself that there are still empty slots (inside your computer) that can be used to put the RAM in.

I would like to inform that time lagging could be bad RAM, could be a the graphics card starting to go, could be overheating... Might even be your power supply failing to deliver enough juice and the card automatically down clocking itself to compensate.I would also recommend to run the diagnostics on your unit.when the unit is off press the FN + POWER key to initiate the PSA diagnostics & note if you get any error message.

Thanks,
Dell-Pradeep S

Hi,

My name is Ashutosh kumar sharma and i work for social media and community team at Dell.

All you need to do is manage your startup programs to cut down on the time it takes for your computer to start up. Less startup programs equals less time to startup. Here how to alter you msconfig

1. Open your Start menu.
2. Click Run
3. In the command screen type "msconfig.exe"
4. In the "system configuration utility",
click either "service" or "startup" tab
5. Uncheck all programs that your are no longer using.
6. Click "OK"

try not to click anything off that is necessary. For a list of programs and services. The page below is good.

Thanks

Hello, Thanks for giving me a reply, but I am sure that it is not a RAM or Graphics problem, Am having 3 gb ram and 256mb graphics, ATI. Once my computer starts, then everything works fine, There is no slowness, but when I shut down my laptop and leave it without using for an hour or 30 mins, then next time when I push the stat button ,then the light will turn on, but it takes around 5 to 10 min to show the bios page, if I shutdown the pc and start it again then itself , no problem seen,.It means the problem only seen if I keep it for idle around 30 mins or so. I remember one think, once I got a warning that , day clock stop or something, My laptop gets heated up withing 15 mins, I think that is a common problem seen in Dell. I am having 30 gb space in my c drive and 60 gb in other drive, so it is not a problem of less storage space. and am not having any virus problem, as am using a antivirus which is up to date.

I gave my last in a dell service centre and they told, that it is the mother board complaint . You can fix it with 15000 rupees and extend warranty for one year.

hello. Finally I gave my laptop in a dell service center , After checking, They said , there is a problem with your motherboard, U will need too pay 15000 rs to fix this problem with one year extended warranty , Without fixing also you can use your laptop like you were using before, .

Any way I don't want to fix this problem with 15000 rs , hence I took my laptop back , without repairing, Still I am using the same laptop now, with that same complaint.

It is better to buy a new laptop instead of repairing it with 15000 rs , Right?........

Absolutely better to save a bit more and get a new comp than to repair the motherboard. There should be plenty of discount at the moment from all manufacturers (forget Apple laugh4.gif ) where you can get a better system for less. Good luck

cheers ...
