I've been using an ASUS G50Vt gaming notebook for 3 or 4 years and for the first time this morning I tried to turn on the computer and it not only failed to boot, but there was a continuous high-pitched noise. Turned it off and on a few more times with same problem. I then removed the battery and tried again, and this time it booted as normal. Now I'm nervous about what to do next. Any suggestions?

Time to take it apart and performing some cleaning with new thermal paste?
cheers ...
Curious as to whether that comment was intended as a joke or a serious suggestion. I did replace the fan about a year ago and I remember it was
suggested to put some thermal product around the connections. I bought the thermal compound but didn't apply it. The problem (the noise) hasn't reoccurred however, and the
laptop has been booting normally.

It was a serious suggestion.
Now that you mentioned the fan has been replaced before, it is time to review for some cleaning again?
cheers ...
