Hi Guys,

How to remove the DVD ROM Drive of ASUS K43, specifically K43SM-VX090. I want to change the DVDROM Drive to Fenvi HDD Caddy.

Hope you guys could help. :)

Thanks!

Thanks, I will try this one. I though, only one screw to remove the drive (same as other laptops), I have to remove the entire back cover?

Thanks

Looking like that you have to remove the back cover to get access to that one screw holding down the optical drive - according to the linked guide

Yeah, its no big deal. Remove the 4 screws as directed for the back cover and then the one for the Optical drive...Make sure that the battery is removed before you do this and I dont suppose I have to say that make sure its unplugged and turned off too. (PS) Make sure you dont mix up the screws

Unfitunately, my Asus k43sm, is different from the site / guide provided above. sad.gif
Can't seem to find any instruction of Asus k43s.

Can you even use the above guide for reference? It should not be so much of a difference

I remove all the screws, but I cannot remove the back cover, and I do not want to force it as it might break. I attached the back cover of the laptop.

Any screws underneath the battery? Underneath those 2 rubber dings?

There are two screws beside in each rubber dings, 4 screws, inside the compartment where the hdd and ram are,  2 screws inside the battery compartment, took them off but the back panel wont come out. I shoot an email to ASUS support, as they might be able to give us instruction.

I am not sure if the ODD screw can be access at the back cover or under the keyboard?

Thanks!

It's very rare that you should access the optical drive screw from the top. Then again with one's luck (mine quite a bit) anything can be rare laugh4.gif

Sure way is to open things up and verify first according to references.

Thanks, Guys. I checked on the owners manual, but they didn't mention how to remove the optical drive.

If anybody here who successfully took out the optical drive of this ASUS K43SM, please share some info.

Thanks.

Can you share a pic of the bottom of your comp after you take the casing off. The guide that Saugen linked for you mentioned removing a screw holding on to the optical drive, clearly in the pic.

As per the instructions, when you have the four screws removed, did you try and slide the back cover in the direction of the indicated arrow rather than try and lift if off???

Hi,

Yes, upon removal of all visible screws, I tried to slide it and lift it off. sliding the back panel is impossible since the edges of the notebook is curvy, and the back cover covers the entire notebook. The rectangle cover with two screws only to access the HDD and Memory Module.

Still looking for instruction on the internet but seems cant find one.

Thanks

hmmm ... May be we went about this all wrong. Try this - should be quite simple.

. Flip the notebook over, keyboard on top
. Take a look closely at the keyboard top edges (ESC, F5, F10 and toward the right end)
. You should be able to lift up the keyboard (gently) by using a small flat head screwdriver to prod the holding tabs off
. Be careful lifting the top edge off since there is a ribbon cable underneath the keyboard.
. On the right hand side there should be a screw that holds the optical in place
. Remove that screw should allow you to slide the optical drive out

Give that a shot. Good luck

I will give it a shot. I saw the 4 rectangular hole and tried to prod the holding tabs, but when I remove the screwdriver the tab locks again. I will definitely try this again.

It is kinda tricky with those tabs smile.gif

You need to prod and and prying it away over the housing to keep them up, just a tad
