Laptop for video editing

Hi there,

I'm moving to Florida for a year and the laptop I have at the moment is HUGE and plain old rubbish.

I've spent the past few days learning about laptop specs but i'm still really struggling - i'm a complete newbie to this kind of stuff. Any advice you can give me would really be appreciated!

I need a laptop that isn't too big or heavy, so that it can fit in my housing locker and in my hand luggage for the flight over. For the majority of the time i'll just be using it for email, facebook, watching DVDs etc but i'll also want to edit some videos from my camera to upload to youtube, using Serif Movieplus X6.

Now all of the information I read about laptops for video editing discuss high specs, quad core i7 processors and magical graphics cards of wonder. I've had a look at these kind of laptops and decided that they are far too expensive. As it's for youtube, video quality isn't too important. So although my camera can film in HD, I thought i'd just film in SD in the hope I can get a cheaper laptop.

Will I be able to comfortably edit video on a cheaper laptop?  What is the difference between the i7 and i5 processors? Are there any laptops that you could recommend?

Lots of questions I know, but I would appreciate any help as i'm completely lost. Thanks in advance! :)

Take a look at current manufacturers offers direct from their web sites (Lenovo, Dell, Hp, Sony etc ...)

It seems that everyone is unloading their inventory of Intel 2nd generation i5 and i7 for cheap. You probably can find some 14" systems that wil fit your needs.

cheers ...

If you're going the AMD route, I'd go with the HP dv6z with the newer processor over the one you listed.

Those specs are fine for what you want to do.

I agree with Djembe, if the price difference is not too large since it would give you a bit more horse-power
