Hp pavillion dv6 stuck at HP Invent screen

Hi all,

I've had a problem with my notebook.

I've unmounted it to change the thermal paste on CPU and GPU, and now when I power it it gets stuck at the HP Invent screen for a loong time.

How can I fix it?

I've tried to change the thermal paste again, and it was ok.

I've resetted the CMOS

I've tried separately the two  RAM cards

I've tried to boot it without the hdd

BUT nothing happened..

Even the BIOS screen, when I manage to get to it, it's veery slow, I can arely navigate in it..I've resetted the Bios settings, but still nothing..

Help me pleas, I'm going crazy!

If it works before you took the comp apart for cleaning and applying new thermal paste, then it should work again when you put things back correctly.

- review your installation steps again, using a service guide if you have it - go slow.
- did you short anything by any chances?
- can you start the comp up with an installation disk?

cheers ...

I'm afraid I might have broken the motherboard somehow..But it's difficult, I have the service manual and I've followed any step correctly, it's not my first time either..

Since I've thought that I could have mounted something in the wrond way, I unmounted and mounted it again, but still nothing..

Now I'm trying to make it boot from the Win7 DVD, but the boot menu is extremely slow..If I can make the DVD run, what should I do?Repair?

And I forgot to tell you that the first time I booted it, it worked fine and I used it for a few hours and it was going just fine!
After I restarted it, with no updates, it didn't boot anymore..

Yes.

Check the connection to your keyboard, leave out the wireless card and see how it runs

Ok, I've found the problem..It was the USB board that gave me problems, once disconnected it, it works just fine..

But due to the uncountable times I've hard resettedd the system, I'm afraid I corrupted something..Everything works, but, for example, I can't surf the web through IE, while Chrome works..

Norton just disappeared from the list of programs installed, and I can't boot it anymore..

I wanted to perform a ScanDisk, but when I restart the system, since the hard drive is in use, it says it can't access the hdd due to un unspecified error, since a software/driver has been recently installed..I've ripristinated to the oldest sytem image I had, but still nothing..

How can I check disk for errors and fix them?

Thanks!

at this stage I would recommend going for a clean windows installation and be done with it. USB board eh? Interesting

You wanna hear something even more interesting? :D
I wasn't able to scan the disk because of Norton Internet Security: once I've used the Norton removal tool, the computer is perfect..Weird world..

another Norton mystery laugh4.gif

Personally never use them and never intend to use them paid antivirus software. One has the same chance of getting infected just as much as with the free one winknudge.gif

Glad o hear it all sorts out for you

I know, they cause more problems than they solve/avoid!

I once had problems with Kaspersky and Windows 7, wifi didn't work anymore until I removed it..

I am staying with Microsoft Security Essentials for now, used AVAST and Comodo before this.
