Have had no problems w/my xps 1530 at all. then suddenly screen went blank and I was told it was the motherboard. Paid quite a bit for it back in 2008 $1800.(approx). would u replace motherboard (sending back to dell for $500?) thanks for any thoughts.

Probably a dead GPU, very typical Dell, more so than any other manufacturers laugh4.gif

You can try baking it (the graphic chip) or get a replacement if the card is swappable. If not, save the money for a newer model. They are selling them cheap at the moment

qhn, thanks very much for responding. now I'm hearing that Dell is fixing some 1530's for free (cpu, motherboard, and ram) but not addressing the Nvidia graphics card problem. I must admit I don't know anything about the Nvidia problem but I think you sort of alluded to it in your reply.
I'm just so ticked at Dell for not being straight forward w/me. Have been a client of their for many years. Bummed.

thanks again, m007

qhn, I'm embarrassed - I don't know what 'baking' means. i don't mean to waste your time but am certainly in process to find out of it helps here. Not sure if the replacement card is swappable? I'm in the process of finding out. Thanks for replying I'm really appreciative. Have been blown away by Dell's crumbling service level.

In a nutshell it is a charlatan approach to revive a dead GPU or dead motherboard, works pretty good 99,999% of the time. winknudge.gif

Qhn, thanks for making laugh! Haven't felt very upbeat since this dell debacle started. The good news is I'm teachable. Used to think dell products and service level were exemplary. Will let u know how baking turns out. Very much appreciative for your time and valuable insight.

smile.gif Make sure that, after shutting it off the oven, you leave the baked ding inside for at least 40-45 minutes with the oven door open - don't touch it.

Take pics - we want recipe steps winknudge.gif
