VAIO 15.5" E Series Custom Laptop SVE151190X

Thread Starter
Hi,

I am looking to buy a Sony Vaio Laptop. Too many Series in the VAIO brand that is confusing me.

My Usage: Avid Internet User. Open like 20 - 30 Windows at a Time, Blogging, Managing CMS of Various Websites etc. Not into Games (but why not :-) if the laptop is good)

I want your opinion on the VAIO 15.5" E Series Custom Laptop SVE151190X laptops. Is this a Good buy or are they better laptops in VAIO. I am very particular about 15" Laptops.

Regards,
Hemanth

E series are the main stream laptops, that doesn't mean they're bad, as they're indeed quite good if properly configured (Custom To Order).

That said, VAIO has some other higher end models, like S series and Z series.

As you can see in my sig, I have an E series.

Hi there!

I just bought the VAIO 15.5" S Series Custom Laptop Model Number: SVS151190X Enhanced and let me tell you why this thing is worth considering...

First of all...the screen is superb and dedicated graphics card plays along well especially after you push it to the limits with Afterburner OC utility. Now, this 15.5 incher comes in extremely thin package while not imitating the industry boring standards established by completely uninspired (in my opinion) Apple slates. Have I mentioned that the thing is actually magnesium alloy?

Yeah, I was pondering the new XPS, Asus, HP, but do yourself a favor and visit your local Sony retailer or Fry's to put your hands on...and you'll not let go. Battery life is also great while running the integrated graphics...and again, the full HD IPS from Sony is a no brainer for web browsing.

I will be posting some Benchmarking stats soon thumbup.gif so stay tuned!

I am glad to see Sony going back to their root, and not trying to be like other Windows machines tongue.gif

cheers ...

001_rolleyes.gif OmG, qhn, you have no idea.

I was still a fresh owner when I've posted the above...Could not get any O'C utility to work (Afterburner or Asus GPU Tweak both reported limited GPU Core range withou possibility to adjust/override). So yesterday at about 20:00 I was still stuck on subpar 8000 3dMark06. Very frustrating considering that my o'ced Asus N82JQ could hit high 9000 range.

That's when it happend...w00t.gif I stumbled across a thread that implied the possibility of flashing custom Bios which sets geForce 640m LE clocks at desired values. Really upset about the current standing I opted to go for 650m core clock setting of 835Mhz Core & 1000Mhz Mem. The Bios Flash went well and after following instructions to activate the setting I progressed to run 3dMark06 (don't ask me why I am stuck on 2006...well, it's easier for me to refer back to my older system scores).

Final score: 11281 and the temps remained below 70 deg. Celsius!!!!

The drawback is that the clock are HW set and there's no way to reduce it via any tool other than orig. Bios flash. That being said, the card downclocks to the bottom value of 135 regardless so in my opinion no harm done especially with such low temps. In addition, there's always switch to go for integrated intel GPU if you need best battery life. My batt does not seem to suffer on 640m LE either. Still in 5 HR range on med brightness websurfing.

Bottom line, SVS151190X S Series Vaio is awesome. I have a freakin Alienware with IPS full HD screen, magnesium alloy casing, and decent battery life...with GPU pretty much being anything I want it to be shocked.gif

Next thing is run with Bios clocking my 640m LE at 1k Core and 1k Mem...will report back and meanwhile check out the benchmark screenshots in the appropriate section thumbup.gif

Qhn or other skilled enthusiast out there,

hope you could give me an advice if this happens to come across your monitor. So, I've got the i5-3360 on order and I'd like to swap the Combo CD/DVD (slot load) for BluRay (slot load). Judging from the laptop's shell (no led's, buttons) and eject button positioned right above the F1 key, I assume that the ejection mechanism is software based just if you'd right click the icon in the system menu and select eject...huh.gif

What I am trying to say here, based on my assumptions and SATA standard I am assuming any slot loaded, BluRay laptop drive should fit but then I hit the wall. I am torn between 9.5 mm or 12.7 mm form factor. Both are laptop intended with the latter being more common. When I upgraded my N82JV I did not have that problem as most of the vendors listed the model in compatibility data. My new S Series is entirely different story. Yeah, I could look at it while I am swapping the CPU but bottom line is I'd like to kill two flies with one disassembly hahano.gif.

Hope you can make sense out of this and at least say hi, mate tongue.gif.

Best,
LtR.

Superb!!!

Tnx a lot, mate. I swear that bing or google would not do it for me...perhaps best time to go back on yahoo azz.gif.
Anyway, just posting corrected link below if anyone else is interested as you've posted link to the tray loaded version which would not eject properly...

Slot Loaded:

Really glad to know the correct dimensions! Again, Thanks a lot, mate, and stand by for THE BENCHMARK of my Sony Vaio SVS151190x with more powerful CPU and GPU clocked @ 1K core saywhat.gif.

PS: Why do I have a feeling that you don't think my Sony will make it out of this one winknudge.gif
