Qosmio X300 touchpad and mouse does not function

After I was recently reinstalling antivirus, something went wrong there and at some point cursor stopped on the screen without moving. Neither touchpad nor mouse were working. I tried to restart the laptop few times.. but result was the same - keyboard worked, but touchpad and mouse not. Though I am not an expert in using only keyboard I just managed to open control panel -> devices (where i can see attention marks in front of pointing device (I guess its touchpad) and mouse.

The problem is with only keyboard working i dont know how to point on them to restart drivers for them or anything like that. The problem might sound stupid, but I am really begging for help or any advice as I am currently abroad and cannot bring my laptop to any service.

You can try:

1. disabling the antivirus, restart
2. go into safe mode and see if any differences
3. uninstall the keyboard and mouse devices in devices manager, restart the computer and see if Windows can re-install them for you

i tried the safe mode - no changes

antivirus is disabled

i dont know how to access keyboard and mouse settings with only keyboard working ..as I sad i only managed to open control panel menu with devices listed or close it. What could I press on keyboard to go down and open sub-menus to to check the settings for mouse or touchpad ? I guess this is an extremely stupid problem :(

any chances that you can get an USB (external) mouse? If not you might have to use the tab key to move around the fields

thanx it was very helpful, but funny thing is that for either usb external mouse (which does not work) or touchpad all drivers seems to be installed and when i try to renew them or check is says everything is fine i tried to turn it off or on .. it should work but it does not :(

System Restore:

- Start ->accessories -> system tools -> system restore: here you can see the option to restore the system at an earlier time. Hopefully that Kapersky was smart enough to create a restore point before installing its newer version.

Kapersky: if the above does not work, I recommend removing the software all together, making sure everything functions properly before re-installing it. My personal choice would be just using Microsoft Security Essentials: simple, free and works more than fine comparing to paid software

No one is stupid around here smile.gif Welcome to NBF

I blame this error code to Kapersky update installation - not you, but the version itself causing some issue with the registry entries
