Buying a new Laptop

Looking at going back to school, and my old Emachine 6809 just isn't going to cut it. I need a good multipurpose machine, that will be reliable and durable (I travel allot for work). I'm thinking of getting either a Toshiba L870-BT2N22 or an HP g7Z-2100. I can get a little more for less with the Toshiba. My problem is after reading up on this forum again (it's been awhile), neither company leaves me feeling confident in there durablilty and support. Which company do you guys recommend? Am I reading to much into the posts here?

Heavy models you show here smile.gif I would personally take the HP from the above choices. And yes - you were reading too much into the posts here. You can dig up the same amount of swearing for pretty for every notebook manufacturer winknudge.gif

Would ultrabooks be better for school purposes? Light and long battery life

If I were attending classes at a campus I would say yes an ultrabook would probably be a better choice. However being older with a career that puts me on the road allot, and a family with obligations I'm doing it online. I originally bought the 6809 for a similar purpose way back when as my wife and now son both are vying for the desktop. The worst part would be airport travel but I’ve had to carry a work computer on the road, so I would just substitute with this one. Besides this wouldn't be solely for school, as both these models come with Blueray drives for entertainment.

qhn,
Going on the theme of a smaller / lighter laptop what do you think of the ASUS A53E-TS52? It's a 15.6, and also comes with a Blueray player, while still keeping costs down.

Thanks qhn for all your help. After talking with you I was leaning more toward a 15.6 laptop, but after my wife saw the 17.3 there was no going back. So I picked up the HP DVR7-7010US from Amazon. I already have a 4 gig mem stick which I intend to use to upgrade it from 6 to 8GB. It was a second drive bay so an SSD is in my future.

Thanks Again
