I used to own an IBM ThinkPad 600x.
What I loved:
What I hated:
I'm currently using a HP Compaq nc8430, and it's pretty good (has every quality I liked in the ThinkPad, but not as study), but I've had it for 5+ years and it's going to be time to upgrade at some point.
TL;DR SKIP TO HERE
So, the question: since Lenovo took over, has it affected the ThinkPad aura at all? Could you still run over one with a car and expect it to work? Do they still have the super-stiff titanium hinges to eliminate screen ?
What I loved:
- Built like a tank
- Black business look with no frills or gimmicks.
- Super-strong screen hinges. I hate laptops on which the screens wobble around when you type (just the epitome of cheapness ... and it drives me nuts).
- Full-size, solid keyboard with a proper layout (ins/hom/pg/del/end key cluster is in the proper place, extremely important for programming), even though it was a 13.3"
- TrackPoint. I will never buy a laptop without one (my current HP laptop has HP's equivalent and a track pad)
What I hated:
- Nothing. It was perfect.
