Better microphone performance? Please?

One of the coolest things I've discovered about Bluetooth is that I can create an audio link between my 8790 and Motorola V600 cell phone so I can use the laptop speakers and microphone as a speakerphone!

However, the gain on the 8790's built-in mic is so low I'd have to put my mouth over the thing to actually capture any sound. Turning up the Windows recording input control all the way doesn't do much. Can anyone recommend a better recording utility, one that allows me to pump up the gain on the built-in mic? Or is this all I can get out of it?

Have you looked into Volume Control. There are a number of ways to increase the record volumne. Bring up the Volume dialog box. Make sure you have Microphone activated in both Playback and Record. This is done by clicking on Options, then Properties. There you can switch between the two. Make sure Microphone is enabled in both. If you don't see it in both, use the box below to enable it. Again, you have to do it for both.

Also, once you have enabled both, and put the volume in each to max, then click on Advanced. Click on Mic Boost and make sure Select Mic 2 is not selected. You can also click on Advanced in the master Volume Control where you can select Loudness. Again, make sure you do this for both Record and Playback.

You may want to experiment some with the settings of the other Volumes to limit the interference.

Lastly, you may want to go to Sounds and Audio Devices in the Control Panel. In there you can fine tune the microphone in the Voice tab under Test Hardware.

There are some other threads in these forums that address this problem.
