Thread Starter

Hi there .

I have the problem my on laptop, it shuts down in some games , not all.

so , it get me crazy , in those:
World of warcraft ,
the Elders scroll IV : oblivion

the Elders scroll V :Skyrim

Vampire the masquerade : Bloodlines (VTMB)

BOT NOT turned off in

Mass effect (1,2)

Darksiders II

king's bounty

it should not be temperature problem, so say's dell warranty service

i've checked.

in VTMB it's not so high (72 gpu, others lower), when it shut's down,
and Mass effect - it don't , but temperature is pretty high (94 , and it havn't turned off even once, may be now will be diffirent)

with help of warranty service i've changed my motherboard + cooling system .
ricoh card reader (there was a problem from the begining)

I have temp logs and system info in files, shortly say - it's :

one of Dell specs in my country give advice to
take it to service again an change motherbord

BUT
i do not have tests , when comp. shuts down .

it shuts only during games.

may be you know some kind of ... how to say.....

what is the same about those games, what should I test , and how ?
if I'll find it - half of problem will be solved.

You do have plenty of memory. I would run a MemTest just in case

Also, are the games patches up to date? GPU driver up to date?

cheers ...

yes, drivesrs , bios , directX , C runtime  (visual C, of course) e t.c. is installed ,just as game needs to be.
about mem test , can you say a name of some good programs for it ?

oh yeah , it's also not a electicity problem ( i've tested also in others places, then my home , on UPS system , whatever notebook battery is good enough for it )

thanks , i'll try.

Good luck.. You can also try (again) to uninstall and reinstall the game(s) in question, one at a time

if it were in only one game - i would think - "i'ts just game error",
but in whole bunch of games, but not all, so i search and search
target is simple, but goal is still out of sight =___=

Take some compressed air into the notebook's vent and vacuum them as well. I know, you said your temp is cool, but it's worth a shot

So ....

i've runned memory test for 4 hours in cycle, havn't found any problem.

about vacuum cleaner - don't be ridiculous. if I use it on my notebook (2300W) , my cooler will be sucked into :D

and , i repeat , I HAVE COMPLETELY NEW cooling system and motherboard .
so - there just no reason. i do cleanings time to time tough .

- no memory problem , no temperature or video... i just don't know what and how to test, except for games, to make it chut down on test,

and , i've tryed to use not main notebook screen , but connected it to other monitor - no help at all.

so... what eslse is there ? soft and CPU
this book is damned =___= *cry*

* I use vacuum cleaner on all my comps * blushing.gif

I would give in your case a complete system re-installation, pray, and then scream to Dell for another replacement.

cheers ...

another replacement will be , if I will be able to show problem on TESTS , not on "some game" - because - say your prays to game development , there is no technical problem.

Another open (probable) cause is the hard drive. Run chkdsk on it as well when you have a chance. Of course a complete wipe-out and re-installation might be the last gasp

i've changed HDD twice.. it is 3th HDD , and it is ok.
or.. it was ok , coz after so much shut downs - it can be damaged.

but it's not the case right now.

Have you tried updating your Radeon drivers to the latest version?

Thread Starter

Yes , I have latest drivers.
there were two types of "latest drivers"
Legacy , and mobility ,as I remember.  (but I'll try link you give as well)

CPU test :

Prime95 - no problems found. core temp 76\74 °C (first-second core)

GPU tests
FurMark 1.10.2 - gpu temperature max temperature 102°C , no shut downs .
now I'll try Unigine Heaven.

on DX 9 - 10 - 11 - openGL.
for all night test... maybe ...maybe I'll find something.

P.S.Tried furmark+Prime95 both in same time. for two hours or so. no shut downs.

those drivers have not helped.
continue with tests.
(got answer from DELL , want me to check if system shuts down in bios , and
to update few drivers)
hope it helps.

Thanks for keeping us informed. Good luck Shirama ... they should just need to give you a replacement (upgrade), saving you time

cheers ...
