Acer Aspire 5315 won't connect to my Samsung Galaxy 2 Skyrocket Wifi Hotspot with AT&T

I can't connect to the internet even though the wifi is connected.  the web pages won't come up.  I get an error message that says it can't connect.  Do I need special drivers or something?  It's an older laptop.  Any suggestions?

I take it that the device is already being setup for tethering?

You have a WiFi connection, but is this WiFi access point (or router) secured? If so, do you have the correct user ID / password to gain access?

The reason I mention it is because what you describe sounds a lot like what I've seen before, where the WiFi connection actually "connects", but you have limited or no internet/network access. Essentially, the WiFi radios are up and connected, but the router/access point end of things is blocking re-transmission up the line (the internet side of things). Usually this is because of either lack of permissions (user ID/password/WiFi protected setup incorrect, etc.), or sometimes because the other end is blocking your client device via MAC filtering (this is rare for the described symptoms).

im having the same problem i think. Trying to connect my dads acer aspire 5315 to his droid hotspot. I only get a local connection no internet? My toshiba has no problems connecting. so i know that the hotspot is working properly. ive restarted both devices and double checked the password. Plzzzz help!!!!!

Which Droid hot spot are we talking here? There are many apps out there. What does the hot spot guide say?
